I'm mostly playing Battlefield 2 right now. Check out the demo. The game is down to $20-30 and well worth it IMO.

People still play Tribes 1? Any active Shifter servers still?

Quake 3, Quake 4, Unreal Tournament, UT2004 are some of my favorites.

UT2004 is a must have, especially if you're into multiplayer.

I'd bet it'll be a nice change from the "Hyper-realistic" FPS games you're used to.

Unreal Tournament 2004.

Throw up Antalus with the Zoom Instagib, Low Grav and Double Jump modifiers. It's a space-esque mayhem! If you leave off Zoom Instagib, you can grab the Redeemer, jump up onto the high plateaus and nuke some punks from high above 😛.

EDIT: That reminds me of a bit of a story... gather round, papa aik has a tale to tell.

This one time, one of me roommates decided he wanted to play a game with me. He asked if I wanted to play "Duke Nukem." So I jokingly told him to wait so I could get my 486DX out, then I suggested we play Unreal Tournament 2004 instead. Well, then I got into a bit of a taunting mood and said I'd beat him badly even though I hadn't played in years. We went to play... yeah I won 30-3 😱.

Then the rest of the roommates got in the action and we got some team matches setup. Unfortunately, my teammate was too busy talking to a girl and we lost 40-33 where I had 36 frags myself. Yes, although it may look like some funky math, that number is correct 😛. Beating two people at once wasn't too much fun, but when you know the Adrenaline codes and no one else does, it gives you a bit of an advantage 😉.

Yeah, it seems like there are at least 2 started every week.

quake team fortress. on mplayer or quakeworld, not heat.net (i don't think any of those are still up. maybe people in europe still play on quakeworld...)

but yeah in a pre-half-life world, that imo was the best.

I agree with Hamburger boy. Even if you consider it more of an RPG in first-person mode, its still the best.

For more traditional shooters, I prefer the less popular games like Alien Vs Predator 2 and Alice.
They're an aweful lot of fun and many people havent even played them.
