If you're looking for the best Deathmatch experience ( i.e NOT BF1942 ) try Quake III coupled with the Rocket Arena mod. IMHO it's as good as Deathmatching can get.

BF1942 by far,

and Unreal tounrey has always looked and palyed better than Q3, and no battlefield is not based off the quake engine AFAIK

Yeah I didn't think BF 1942 was a deathmatch type game.

So we UT 2003, Soldier of Fortune 2, and Q3.

Any other DEATHMATCH type FPS you'd consider the best?

If you want fast paced games, where you have to think really quickly, then UT, UT2003 (the original is better!), Q3A, and Q3A:Rocket Arena, are probably the best.

SoF2 is a slightly slower paced game, but is still a great multi player game


If you are looking for more realism, and some good WWII fun, getting to be many different classes, and drive Jeeps, tanks, planes, ships etc, then Battlefield 1942 will be brilliant for you!

For pure deathmatch I like Quake, Quake 3, UT, and UT2003.

Quake 3 and UT2k3 for deathmatch, followed by Soldier of Fortune II if you want a bit of realism.

It's just sick how deadly you can be in standard deathmatch if you have some skill (SoF II), so some discount it because of that. :/
