What am I going to see the biggest kick in the pants from, a q6600 or e6850 with a 8800gts 640mb on an abit ip35 pro? Under Vista, with games like Stalker, COD2, COD4, Painkiller editions, HL2 EP2....

i'd say get quad core and be done with it...unless you love to overclock and dont feel like you need the extra 2 cores, then get the e6850. why no love for the e6750?

I've read that, as a general rule of thumb, once OC past 3GHz, it usually doesn't matter in games if you have dual or quad core since pretty much all systems are GPU limited at that point (unless you are running really low resolutions). Even if not GPU limited, I've heard it may be a while (year or two) before games might efficiently use quad cores. My guess is that if you OC your E6850 to 3.6GHz (9x400) then even the new 45nm quads due out in a couple months would not make any difference in your games (at least for the next year or so).
