Best pure runner: Barry Sanders (ran like a cheetah but couldn't block)
Best runner: Walter Payton (running,blocking,catching)

Best pure QB: Dan Marino (no doubt)
Best QB: ?

Best linebacker: Dick Butkus (no doubt)

I'm going to translate 'best player ever' to 'most fun to watch and pretty darn good too': Barry Sanders

<< What's wrong with Montana? Other than being the coolest customer under pressure, playing hurt, always finding the open guy, being a great leader and making the rest of the players on the team raise the level of their play??? >>

Montana had an excellent line, the best receivers, and an excellent rushing tandem in Craig and Rathman, not to mention one of the ALL-TIME leading football minds, Bill Walsh. Had he been the quarterback for the Denver Donkeys, he probably wouldn't have lasted more than a few years.

John Elway made it to the Super Bowl with subpar wide receivers and a poor backfield(Bobby Humphreys...WHY?! Sammy Winder, no disrespect...but...eh). You do know that John Elway played with no cartiledge in his knees for 4 years, right? Oh...and John CAN take a hit(as seen in many defensive highlight reels...we've always had the worst offensive line until Mike Shanahan came to the rescue)...unlike Montana and his buddy Steve Young.

The orange crush was good and all but 55-10....what in the hell happened? Yea...still bitter about Super Bowl XXIV. John Elway also broke the NFC championship winning streak...beating the G'Bay Packers! HAHA! JOHN ELWAY FOREVER!!!

Best football player ever?

Walter Payton.

He was the best blocking back ever. He knocked blitzing LB's on their arse several times. You don't see that any more.
All time leading rusher behind some of the worst lines of all time. Most of his yards came when the Bears sucked.
3rd string quaterback for most of his career. He had 7 TD passes on trick plays and 1 as a QB.
All time total yards leader.

The only thing he didn't get was a TD in his one and only Super Bowl thanks to DICKa for running the fat ass instead of the best ever. He deserved to score in that game. God bless the greatest ever.

Dan Marino. Bar none. Too bad he played for one of the worst football teams... He could throw to Anybody, he didn't have a crutch (Jerry Rice) like Joe Montana/Steve Young had.

Joe Montana? Yea, ok. :| If he didn't have Jerry to throw to he would NOT have been near as Great, nor would have all those rings.

Yep, you are right. Montana wouldn't have won a thing without Rice. Wait..he won 2 Super Bowls before Rice was in the league.

Gotta go with Bo Jackson as best running back, even though his career was cut short by injury.
Nobody was that fast at his size and strength. He would have broken record after record just playing football part time after baseball season was over.
235lbs
4.18 in the 40yard dash. :Q For comparison, that is leaving Deion and Darrell Green in the dust.
The man was simply awesome. Either ran over or away from everyone.

This award goes to co-players.

Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and me. They don't call me "The secret weapon" for nothing.;)
