OK, my floppy drive has just given up. I need to know what type of floppy drive I should get and please keep it also a cheap drive (although I haven't heard of an expensive floppy drive!)

UPDATE: ARE THERE ANY STORES THAT ARE PRESENTLY SELLING FLOPPY DRIVES AT A GOOD PRICE? BEST BUY< ETC?

I don't think there is such thing as a best floppy drive but, uh, try any name brand, Teac, Mitsumi, Sony, etc. I'm sure they all work fine.

I just bought a Mitsumi at a computer show today for 11 bucks, buy the cheapest one you can find because there all basicly the same thing. 😀

All the brands seem to be fine, and TEACs are actually overrated, and several years ago their head alignment went out more than average (design essentially unchanged since then).

Yes no such thing as best floppy anyway I`ve used Teac,NEC,Mitsumi & they are all the same to me,but if you can get one of those 120mb floppy drives that would be cool.

🙂

Pretty Cool has a good idea..

if you have multiple floppies, and don't really use them to share files with others, an LS120 (though expensive compared to a 1.44meg drive) would be perfect! why? you can reformat your 1.44 meg floppies to 32 megs, and of course, you can read/write 120 meg disks.. these drives are actually pretty popular in my area. they're good for saving not so large files, without having to burn a CDRW.

Hey, Anyone got some time on their hands and could find me a floppy drive with shipping for under 20 bucks?
Thanks if you do, and good luck searching!! 🙂🙂

I got this IBM 233MMX that seems to have a real nice floppy. It seems to read/write a lot faster than all the other floppy drives I got which are panasonic/mitsumi and generic. Dunno who made the IBM floppy.

I'd get a TEAC for a basic reason. Mitsumi's are stamped...the whole casing is. A TEAC is actually seperate parts screwed together which makes a much better drive. There is a Mitsubishi "Super Floppy" drive which supposedly spins at a higher RPM and is faster. Never used one. They are like 25 bucks...

Guyz-I just bought a Sony 1.44 last week from Z-Buy a week and a half ago.

$13.00 + Free shipping (mine was here 2 days later)
Limit 1

It's a nice brand name drive for about as cheap as you can get.

Mitsubishi is the only brand of regular floppy drive that I would avoid because they've long had noise immunity problems (often could not use maximum length standard cable), and their 3.5" units had an awful mechanism that would jam and cause one of the heads to scrape against the disk shutter, and then that head would scratch the disk itself.

I've tried a couple different ones. As far as I can tell, they are all about the same. I currently use a Sony drive because it's quieter than the others.
