Good flashlights are made by Mag Instrument, Pelican, and Streamlight. LED flashlights are very rugged and feature long battery life. The lamp modules in LED flashlights can be said to last a lifetime.

Without a doubt, the best flashlight in the world can be found here. This is for the caver/explorer that has it all, along with his Breitling Emergency watch! :p

Cheers!

Surefires are bright, but they eat up the batteries quickly (20-30 minutes constant use)

Maglites are cool, if you're hiking just get one of the 2AA models, with a couple extra batteries just in case. The bigger ones are brighter (obviously), but you'll pay for the weight.

Wow, can't beat that:

<< The CCExpedition will shine at near new brightness for OVER 40 HOURS on one set of batteries. After that, it will continue to give off useful light for HUNDREDS OF HOURS. >>

I have a rechargable Lectro Science Night Tracker. 2 Million candlepower. This thing is BRIGHT. Costs only about $80 too. It's a tightly focused spotlight. Quite heavy though... but it makes 6D Maglights seem like penlights.. seriously.

I dig both my mag-lites, I have a 4 D Cell and a 6 D Cell. The 6 cell also makes a pretty good bashin' stick.

The ones from ccrane.com already mentioned are great. Good company to deal with also. Bought from them many times.

Super deals on lots of cool stuff and great shortwave radios.
