It's surprising that flash based mp3 players haven't come down in price. I bought a 64MB player (Rio, but not sure) in 1999 and it costed me $150 then. I sold it after 2 months for the same price. After 5 yrs, you would imagine the price for a flash player would be like $50.

What are you talking about? They have come down in price:

Walmart

i know, but 64mb is practically useless. The real thing is 256mb and above. Prices for those are still in the 150 range.

A year ago at this same time a 256MB cost around $200 or more. Flash drives really were not popular up until about last year. With higher demand comes increased production of flash memory, which means lower costs. It never used to be a high demand item.

Any reason as to why the Creative Labs Nomad Muvo TX is the best?

I don't own one. but reviews at amazon are very good for this one. Better than iRiver. I think the most important aspect for flash Mp3 player is the interface, whether the firware and buttons are well designed. I returned my Muvo2 4GB because it's not well designed. I suggest you buy from a place with free shipping and no restocking fee so that you can easily return if you don't like it.

I bought teh Muco TX FM last week, Sound quality is great, Battery life is so far great, No Software needed, Easy to use interface, Reception is Good (but not that good on a moving train). 256mb is more then enough for me as a casual listener. Also comes with belt clip, and arm strap and a AAA battery.

The only thing i do not like about it is that the Headphone cables are long, so they tangle..

i had an iriver-i liked it, especially the upgradely firmware. However that samsung is very very small. Pack of gum small. Go play with it first at some B&M before you decide on anything

The TX FM version costs more, like $135 at walmart and amazon.

I hate amazon's pricing engine. As soon as more people than usual buy the product, the price immediately goes up in a matter of hours.

If I decide on the Muvo TX I'll wait until the price drops back down to $135.

I also have some GCs, earn affiliate commission AND triple Amazon.com points.

I've got the iRiver 380T (newest model, 128mb flash player) and love it. I never use the FM radio, but it seem to be decent at picking up my local stations.

Looking back, I wish I would have paid a little more to get the 256mb player. It's ultra light, and I change my battery probably once a month with almost daily usage. The only thing I don't like is the LCD backlight doesn't come on when you press any button, as I run mostly at night and it's hard to see the screen text.
