I have 2 Samsungs and went with it based on it's shape. The triangular shape seems to look bulky and not as asthetically pleasing. Looks akward actually.

Which Samsung models do you own?

What do you like and dislike about them?

When it comes down to MP3 players, iRiver is much better.
iRiver is one of the first companies that made mp3 players and they're known to be one of the best. Samsung joined the crowd later and catching up pretty fast, however iRiver is still better.

(Trust me..I came from S. Korea where mp3 player was invented and there're tons of mp3 player companies and products)

That's like saying Sony walkmen are the best since they pioneered the walkman.

So you have no reviews or other info to provide other than iRiver was first and therefore is the best?

Sony walkmen, indeed, was the best for quite a long time (They were the best until all these companies hopped in and started to advance technoliges in their own way). Same thing is happening with Mp3 players. I'm sure many companies including Samsung will advance iRiver in a very near furture, however iRiver still has the crown.

My statement comes from reading about tons and tons of mp3 player reviews. Unlike U.S, there're just rather too many mp3 companies and models hitting the market every month here in S. Korea.
There're a few brands and models that already advances iRiver mp3 players, however when comparing iRiver to Samsung is just plain simple; iRiver is better. (It's like comparing 3D performance of ATI video cards to Intel video cards)

Creative MuVo TX > * (at least in flash based players)

Excellent battery life. Works just like a jump drive with no cables/software/battery life needed. Has incredible battery life. Easy to use.

For a listing of 'brand name' mp3 players in S. Korea

Go to www.danawa.co.kr and click mp3 tab on the right upper side of the screen.
You'll get the basic idea how many mp3 players are there in the market (and those are only 'brand name' mp3 players)

The data base has information such as

Name / month it was registered / companies selling them / price

MP3 Creative Nomad / 04 (April) / 8 (companies) / 117,000

$ 1 is same as 800 korean currency which means 240,000 Korean currency is same as $300.
When you click the item in database section, you'll get the pictures and specs. of the item on the right side of screen.

I just did some research and it seems like Samsung came out very strong this time.

Yepp, YP-ST5 has specs like:

Specs. (Most of them are in English)

1. Recording, Radio, SRS WOW, EQ..etc.

1. It has 'direct encoding' function which means you can directly convert CDs, tapes to Mp3 files without using PC.

2. Supports USB 2.0 and can be used as a usb drive.

3. lasts 20 hrs. on a sigle AAA sized battery.

Yet once again I'm quoting vi_edit in a MP3 player thread seconding the MuVo TX :D It has all the abilities you want RossMAN, plus the fact that it can be used as a 256MB USB flash drive.

I've got the 512mb version of the IRiver and I think its a very nice player although the FM Radio doesn't work all that well indoors (at the gym mainly) I use the arm band that came with the player for when I go running. Most people would of told me to get the IPod mini for the price I paid for the player last year (about $250)

You might consider mp3 players that has RF signal functions (This function enables Mp3 players to act as a personal radio staion). I find it very useful as I can play MY music on any people's car or audio without a hassle.

I just bought the T5V for $129.95 w/ no shipping or tax. Been running with it about 3 times, its so small and light you dont even know its there. With battery weighs only about an ounce, if that. Very loud, tons of options.

So far, without a doubt, I can say this is the best mp3 player

click

It's got the look, all those functions you'll ever need, and the sound quality.
(USB mass storage, Wireless (RF signal as I mentioned in above reply), lasts 22 hours, recording...etc.

512MB model cost $200 sharp.

Damn you vi_edit and RagingBITCH!

After reading these rave reviews I am seriously considering the Creative Labs NOMAD MuVo TX FM 256 MB MP3 Player.

$135.84 from Amazon.com with triple Amazon.com cc points and free shipping

Oh and 0% Oregon sales tax ;)

It's surprising that flash based mp3 players haven't come down in price. I bought a 64MB player (Rio, but not sure) in 1999 and it costed me $150 then. I sold it after 2 months for the same price. After 5 yrs, you would imagine the price for a flash player would be like $50.

RossMAN - I was just about to suggest Amazon with free shipping :) I bought one for my brother in law in the Navy from Fry's for $150, then my cousin found it for $135.84 shipped. It really is hands down the best flash MP3 player I've used. I think the fact that it doubles as a USB flash disk just makes it that much better. I can't say that I've used any of the MP3 players everyone else has recommended but you will definitely be happy with the MuVo TX :)
