Basically I want want something that does everything as quick (not meaning actual de/compression speed) and easy as Winzip does, but supports at least ZIP, RAR and ACE.
From the screenshots of UltimateZip, it actually looks identical to Winzip, so seems it would work the same.
WinRAR's home page doesn't have any screenshots. How does it compare?
Also use WinRAR. The interface is not purty but it is very functional. WinACE is purtier but I still use WinRAR and even the RAR format even though ACE is a bit better. I bet if you do a google image search for WinRAR it comes up with some.
Does anyone else have a problem where WinRAR takes forever to start when you click on a RAR file associated with it? Zip files open quickly, but RAR files can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes to open, and I can't figure out why.
I'm using the shareware version, but it's difficult to justify buying it if I can't expect better performance.
i once benchmarked all the major compressors out there and posted them on a website
in it i compared many different kinds of file types being compressed
i found that winace was the best in many regards and had an intelligent algorithm
although bzip2 was the best well rounded IMHO
