1 - Fedor is p4p the best fighter in the world, no doubt imo
2- Georges St. Pierre is a close 2nd (after redeeming his ONLY 2 losses to Serra and Hughes)
3 - Anderson Silva is right there behind him - domination
4 - Miguel Torres has made quite the name for himself

It's hard to really get into who is p4p the BEST and why... but Fedor is not human, he is a machine. His only loss by TKO was not really a loss in every smart MMA fans eyes.
We know he was robbed - in Japan they have some f'd up rules to favor their own fighters.

Did you watch the replay they had in slow mo? As soon as Orvlaski *sp went for the knee Fedor quickly moved and threw the right hand. I don't see that as lucky.

And yes, Fedor is a monster. It's too bad Crocop isn't fighting anymore..he's fun to watch.

as for Crocop he lost to many fights in UFC. he didnt turn out to be the badass everyone thought.

Mirko is fighting - the UFC released him from his contract becuase he got rolled by Gonzaga and Cheick freaking Congo so he went back to Japan and is fighting in the DREAM organization.

His UFC 'tenure' didn't make sense to me, from 04-06 in Japan he went on a tear fighting the who's who in PRIDE - a lot of good fighters with a 15-3 record, winning the '06 PRIDE GP in the process. One of those losses was to Fedor (prior to the GP) - going the distance which is something not a whole lot of guys have a chance to do. But as soon as he stepped into the octagon he fell apart. It was unfortunate he was a bust.

While Fedor on the scorecards was probably losing due to Arlovski's technical boxing skill, he was in NO way shook up after that exchange that put him against the ropes. Watch the KO, he intentionally puts his guard down and was getting ready to wind up to deliver that shot which was RIGHT on the button becuase he knew of Andre's tendency to use that flying knee. I wasn't in Fedor's corner to discuss the game plan but from my chair he read him like a book.

Lucky my ass. Fedor's MO is capitalizing from mistakes. One slip up and you're gone. Ask Randleman, submitted after a bodyslam that would have paralyzed or killed most other men. Ask Fujita, who had him wobbly-kneed after a shot then ends up getting submitted less than a minute later. Ask Sylvia who thought he had a reach advantage. No one will go the distance with this guy unless they fight mistake-free. I'm not seeing it happen for a while.

The "Overrated" argument doesn't work anymore - he's steamrolled two former UFC HW champions. Now we play the waiting game for UFC HW's to defect and not resign contracts to fight him in a one-fight exclusive bout then go back, or him joining the UFC. I'm not seeing either of those situations happening unfortunately.

I would have agreed with you a while ago. Losing to Brown and looking lackluster against Pulver exposed him as a weaker fighter than I had previously thought. I love watching him fight but I have a hard time thinking he's among the pound for pound elite at this point. GSP came back a maniac after Serra beat him. If Faber can do the same, then I will agree.

I just looked and it seems that he fought pulver again in January and dominated him. I didn't realize that... but he still has to prove that Brown got lucky in a rematch.
 
Faber is a great fighter but not nearly as much as a complete package as Torres is. That doesn't mean he cant beat him, there are a lot of fighters that can beat someone, that just means they were better that night in some cases. Plenty of times where someone lost they went back and destroyed the person they lost to, now if Faber and Torres fought and Faber owned him both times then more credit would be given. There are just many things that factor into calling someone pound for pound better, that's why I feel Torres is on a higher scale then Faber, without taking anything away from Fabers skills.

Yeah, Lesnar is severely lacking in the skills department. I'm pretty confident that Mir can out-box him right now too after Mir's last bout. I have not seen enough fedor fights, but he definitely seems to have a full skill set as well.

He's gotten better, although he's still very rough around the edges.

That being said, when you've got THAT much brute strength (and great speed for his size), there aren't many people who could stand up to it.

Lesnar was outclassed in that first Mir fight, so the second one should be very interesting to watch.

back in high school, i was involved in some underground basement fighting and i know from experience that, sometimes, the bigger and stronger they are, the more impatient they are. wearing them out and hurting their joints and body will drop them. it's kinda like chopping down a tree. all you need to do is be evasive constantly.

a good example is the fedor vs mike hunt fight i just watched on youtube.

Agreed on Brock getting by with brute strength. With that in mind, it does pose a big problem for Fedor if they ever were to fight. Brock is one of the larger heavyweights around and Fedor is pretty undersized as far as heavyweights go. Granted, Fedor has beaten some larger freakish guys (Sapp, Choi) but I think Brock edges them out strength-wise. Brock is probably quite a bit more athletic than Sapp or Choi. I'd at least enforce a 265 lb weight limit, force him to cut weight.

Not sure how much fighting in a cage will affect Fedor though.
 
Lesnar will be a great fighter once he has some fights under his belt. He has the physical tools. He just needs to develop the technical ones.
 
It is pretty pathetic that Brock had 4 fights and became the champ. 😕 Brock has zero ground game in terms of submissions and defense, so anyone who has a great ground game should submit him, like Mir did in the 1st fight.

Well in his defense, Jens Pulver was a damn good fighter. He's getting old and the sport has advanced a lot since he started fighting over ten years ago. Still a bad dude though. I wouldn't say Mike Brown got lucky, because he's a very good fighter, but Faber just got caught. It happens, you can't be perfect all the time. I just think that putting up a "ROFL" face for saying that Faber would beat Torres is pretty laughable. Like that is an outrageous claim?

Yup, but Dana wants to bring in the fans/money however possible. I've seen mma rankings that have him as the #10 heavyweight.

I dunno, I'd say being a D1 NCAA national champion and beating Randy Couture give the guy a bit of credibility.

It's not as if he isn't constantly training and getting better. If he fought Mir again it would probably be a different story.
