Looking to o/c my S754 3400+. Its the clawhammer core so its running at 2.2, I'd like to get it to at least 2.4 on air. Thoughts?

Noise isn't a problem but less is always better 🙂. DFI "LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb" NVIDIA nForce3 250GB Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 754 CPU

Any of these will do and they are VERY QUIET. I looked at DFI's web and not very good info on compatible HSF's but anyways Newegg/Directron/ZipZoom will have similiar HSF for maybe cheaper$$ > I like the SilenX products although some peeps bash their ideas. G-Luck and NJOY that system. I have the Swiftech 6400 for my 3500+ Win and it is oc'd to 2.5 and I could prob run it without a fan if I wanted lol. The Swift's are massive (1/2 inch copper with alum pins)!! I like SILENCE.

With good case cooling it is MORE than reasonable in my opinion. Many options though XooooX so definitely shop around 🙂

Ordering from Newegg, how does this look.

Its a great cooler. As far as snapping off! There is a "backplate" which secures your HSF. It will not snap off unless you are tossing your pc around like a football.

I would consider an XP-90 or XP-120 but thos are huge and need to make sure the XP-120 would fit your mobo

Check out jab-tech.com too

You really don't need to upgrade your HS and Fan if you're just aiming for a 200 MHz OC. Just bump up the FSB a little bit.

Well I'm pretty good with computers but o/cing isnt really one of my things so i didn't really know. But afterall, with that new Hs/Fan i should be able to reach alot higher than 200mhz.

Zalman CNPS7700-CU http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=35-118-115&depa=0

Swiftech MCX6400 (w/ 80mm fan) http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=35-108-037&depa=0

Thermaltake Venus 12 http://www.newegg.com/app/view...=35-106-038&depa=0

????

Ok I'll tell ya right now the Swifty 6400 is the BOMB. It is the beast that weighs many grams but this weight is what gets ya the extra OC. Pick what YOU want it doesnt matter what "WE" think is best for your CPU. I have this HS and it will SHATTER your oc'ing dreams I garantee ya. If you get a panaflo 92mm fan with atleast 40+cfm than you can OC till your hearts delight! All depends on your RAM! 🙂

No I'm not, Im just going to buy from newegg thats why I linked to there. As for the swiftech don't you need to order the 92mm brackets b/c it looks like it only has 80mm screw holes.

My thoughts which I didn't mention earlier.

HS and HS/F are too expensive @ Newegg. Try other places, e.g. CrazyPC, Sidewindercomputers, Jab-tech, Amazon, Sharkacorp, etc.

1) CNPS7700-Cu = Too heavy

2) Swiftech MCX6400 (w/ 80mm fan) = Heavy & too much $ when you can get something similar/better cheaper

3) Thermaltake Venus 12 = Bad experiences with Thermaltake & noise. Better options available

I'd get (according to budget).

Under $30 = Zalman CNPS7000(A/B)-AlCu
Under $40 = Zalman CNPS7700-AlCu or XP-90 (if you already have a fan)
Around $50 = XP-90 w/ 92mm fan* or XP-120 if you already have a fan for it (120mm only?)
Around $60 = XP-120 w/ 120mm fan

* 120mm fan is an option if you wanna attach a 120mm to 92mm fan adapter. Only if the XP-120 can't fit.

P.S. Make sure HS/F can fit & CrazyPC coupon code: CPCVL123104 (if you do shop there). Think it takes 5% off your order.

Uhh what does heavy have to do with anything? Weight is not an issue for me...But i guess the weight affects the price if thats what your getting at, moneys not really an issue.

If you have a tower setup, heavy HSF can warp/bend your motherboard overtime or in a worse case scenario break your motherboard especially if you transport your PC around alot. As a "guideline", AMD's weight limit for HSF is 450G FWIW.

e.g. being that the CNPS7700-Cu is a bit above 900G (twice AMD's limit). I'd call that heavy.
