Hey i was just wondering if anyone could give me tips on what fan would go well with a Thermalright SLK 900U. THE THING IS THAT I DONT WANT IT TOO LOUD!!! My crappy thermaltake is only at 40dba and that is bearable but it still kinda bugs...Anyone know any good Fans with a good CFM rating as well as low dba? Or maybe if i hooked it up to a fan speed controller then that would help too. Anyone have any tips on a HSF and fan controller? THANKS!!! :D

Newegg has a YSTech fan that is nice and pretty silent - and its a variable speed fan too. I just used it for my frien'ds rig that I built - 2500+ and a SK& +YSTech fan and it beats the crap out of my "Volcano 9"

Any 80 or 92mm with 2000+ RPMs should provide good air flow with very little noise. If it were me I'd get this Adda including the mentioned Vantec and Panaflow, just keep in mind that Panaflow's don't send any RPM data to the MB.

I would'nt unless you plan on overclocking, but there isn't anything wrong with useing a speed controller aside that it makes things more complicated so its up to you really.

HSF=heatsink fan You don't need a HSF for a "heatsink", you need a fan... Not trying to be an as$, but it'll look like it I spose. Just figured I'd give ya a heads up. ;) As I was a bit confused when I first read the topic..but figured you were talkin about a fan for a heatsink..

well, overclocking and low noise don't allways go so well together. You might have to make some compromises when it comes to speed vs. noise so in your case I'd get higher speed fan and contoller to go with it

I'd go for a 92mm M1A (that's the medium speed version) Panaflo with a 3-pin tail and get yourself one of those little Zalman Fanmates for $8 to control the fan speed. Keep turning it down until you get the level of cooling and noise that satisfies you.

Yeah baby! I've got the 80mm Tornado, on my PAL-8045. Air flow isn't an issue. Also it does a great impression of an M1 tank on spinup. I've got it on a Zalman speed control for daily ops, but when the gaming starts, I switch to full speed. You can't really hear it over the Flak Cannon in UT2003 anyways.

Seriously, turned down to low, its very quiet.

Are you referring to the vantec tornado 92x38 thats rated at 119 cfm and 56.4 dba? thats a bit loud dont you think? How much of a cfm rating do you think i will get if i turn that down with a fan controller at a bearable noise level? I'm staying in the dorm room and i want to respect my roomates you know? It's not exactly good to have then wake up if im pulling an all nighter and then have them tell me to turn the noise down.

Air Flow: 57 CFM
Fan Speed: 2850 RPM
Noise Level: 35 dBA
Power: 2.7 watt
Bearing Type: Hydro Wave Bearing

the noise that the 92x38 Vantec Tronado at its lowest does not put out that much noise untill you turn it on high then it will sound like a hair dryer.
