best fan for overclocking the p4 2.2a to its max?

MrDudeMan

Lifer
i want to get a p4 2.2a to the max. i have heard of people hitting 3.2gHz or so....and i want to do this.

would the alpha pal 8942 and 39cfm fan do the job? i would also have very good case cooling...3x 24cfm in and 3x 24cfm out

would this work??

i dont think so...do a search for "fastest" in overclock only section...it brings up a post from Adul saying "post your overclockers here"

the second post down has a guy with a 3.2gHz p4 and i dont think he is using water cooling

the BEST fan for the Alpha would be a Delta 80cfm 80mm fan. It is incredibly loud however. There is also a slightly toned down version that is 68cfm, but even that is still loud. I have a Sunon 50cfm on my Alpha PAL8045 and it does a good job without being too terribly loud. But, if you want the BEST, then go for the 80cfm Delta

where can i get the sunon 50cfm 80mm? i dont mind a whole lot of noise..but over 45db's...i throw in the towel.

will that keep a 2.2 cool enough to overclock to at least 2.8 or 2.9?

I'm not sure that you can use the Alpha on a P4, but one heatsink I have been hearing good things about for the P4 is the AVC Sunflower.

2 Cool Tek for $8

Sidewinder Computers for $9.50 (Click here to hear this fan, and here to hear others).

Gizzo's has great charts on CFM and dBa's for fans -you might be able to find your perfect fan using it.

And yes... Alpha makes afan for the 478 P4 now. The 8942. I've bought mine, but it'll be a couple of weeks before I get it running -I plan on sticking an Antec 34CFM 30dBa fan onto it, and if that works with cooling to spare -maybe going to a Panaflo 24CFM 21dBa, like the rest of my case will be running.

yeah i have a bunch of panaflo L1a's laying around...i would use one of them but i want to OC the hell out of it...will the sunon 50cfm get a 2.0a to 2.9 on the alpha 8942??

We cant give you a definitive answer. There are so many variables, and many rest right on the CPU itself. Maybe you'll get a chip that can hit 2.9 with a stock cooling; or you might get a chip that cant get to 2.6 even with water cooling. All I can say is: an Alpha heatsink and a 50cfm Sunon will be sufficient to disipate the heat put out by a 2.9Ghz Pentium4. No one can guarantee that you will be able to overclock that high with any type of cooling however.

oh alright. well i didnt mean it like it came out..i was just curious if that combination was known to cool that speed properly...i will probably just put the 50cfm fan on it...thanks for the help

I think Alpha 8942 w/39cfm fan should work fine.
There are people running 1.8A at 2.4 - 2.6g with the stock hsf, and you're going for 133mhz fsb.
Also, your m/b could be a problem also.
