best fan for overclocking an Opteron 165

i have the thermaltake big typhoon, i currently have my cpu oc'd to 2.7 idling at 41C, it runs stable at load too, but the thermaltake is #1 in my book, just my 2 centssssssss

yeah i'll have to look into that typhoon cooler. i do agree that thermaltake is a great company. i have one of their cases and it rocks!

I dunno what to tell you, exactly...

If you're sold on Korean flower fans, then get the biggest ones that will fit in your case, I guess.

Personally, I think they're a waste of money, but to each his own...

Usually, the ppl that like these things have just discovered them, like a baby boy that just discovered his penis!

After a while, this phase will pass, like all things.

I guess I would suggest doing nothing for now, since it's winter time. Maybe, come summer, when things heat up, you'll come to your senses... 😀

Ok you stupid racist how about you get your dick out of you ass and give me some advice instead of telling me that some Korean made fan that gets great reviews is a piece of ******. how about you give me some personally experience with some coolers that you used. That's all I am asking for.

PLEASE DON'T POST AGAIN VinDSL!! Unless you have some good advice on a fan that you used!

Uh....those Zalmans are made by a Korean company and have a flower style so no, he's not being racist. I think they are a waste of money for the performance that you get. You can pay less for something like a Scythe Ninja or Thermalright Ultra-120 and get equal or better performance. Now, if you REALLY are intent on choosing from one of those two, get the CNPS9500. If you're willing to go a little more overboard, get the Zalman CNPS9700 (has a bigger fan than the CNPS9500). Like I said, there are better ones out there for the money so the choice is up to you.

I haven't used much besides stock and the Thermalright SI-128. I absolutely love the later. That with a good Sanyo Denki 120x38mm fan on a fan controller... 😀

My bad! I thought you were asking about those fruity Zalman coolers...

Personally, for CPUs I like towers. I would rate them this way:

1) Tuniq Tower 120
2) Scythe Infinity
3) Scythe Ninja Plus

Whatever you get, pay attention to the north-south/east-west orientation...

For GPUs, IMHO, there is the Masscool/Sytrin VF1-Plus Dual Heat Pipe VGA Cooler -- then there's everything else. Stupid name, great product!

BTW, I know you're new here, but I would suggest you keep your emotions in check in these forums. This is a tough crowd! Most members would eat you alive and dispatch you with a belch for dis'ing 'em like that. I'm just one of the nice guys... 😀

Ur kidding right?? thermaltake products are absolute CRAP. There are some exceptions like a few of these cases, IE. ARMOR class and its relatives, the TAI CHI, but others u can get much better cases for the same price. IE ANTEC P180 will blow any of the TT's cases in its price range dont get me started on there matrix which is a totally copy off coolmasters centurion, and also a heck more expensive. THe list goes on and on....

Anyhow TT have made a FEW fluke products which do excellent in there performance, but unless u did prior research in the TT product, STAY THE CLEAR AWAY FROM THEM, EXPECIALLY THERE ABSOLUTELY POS JUNK JUNK WATERCOOLING PRODUCTS!

Ahhh that felt good... anyhow here are my recomendations for air cooling a OC'd system.

1. Artic cooling 64 pro or 7 pro. There dirt cheap, and they will perform close to a scythe with a 1-2 degree margin. Did i mention DIRT CHEAP!

2. TT typhoon is great, a bit too heavy if u decide to get the copper version. I personally dont like having that much torque on my mobo.

3. Thermalright products dominate in there weight/performance ratio here. Do some reviews on there recient products. Ive been off air for 2 yrs now, so i havent been keeping up with high performance air products.

4. Tuniqe Tower <--- ultimate... need i say more???

5. GO water like me. 😀 its lots of fun if u did the right amount of research, and it will cool far better then air can unless u have a permenant AC stuck in front of the comp.

I hope this helps 😛

JUST TO ADD TO THE GUY WHO FLAMED VIN, he's been on the forum for a while. ive seen him a lot. He has never expressed any raciest comment. His comment was on the product and not the COUNTRY u idiot.

If u want to take that comment seriously then, Thermaltake FANS are made in tiwan and all tiwanese products are CRAP. This of course is sacrasm and as we know everyting in the computer world is made in china. But i wanted to defend a fellow AT member who has been helping people almost as long as i have.

well, I apologize for the statement I made earlier. But VinDSL's statement did come off racist when he threw in the "Korean" when talking about the cooler. I know it was made from Korea but his statement didn't seem to help and it came off that any Korean fan sucks. We both misunderstood each other. When people are sarcastic in forums, it can be hard to tell since you don't get their inflection like you can when they are talking to you. Sorry man! hey, but thanks for trying to help in your next comment.

No prob, tjmudder! And, thanks, aigomorla... 😉

BTW (no bull) Friday night my Over-the-Range Whirlpool Gold microwave blew the magnetron.

What did I replace it with Saturday afternoon? A monstrous LG Electronics LMV2053SB

Why? Because that particular model is made in Korea, not PRC (China) like Whirlpools...

True story! 🙂

hahaha thats great! well i think i've decided to go with the arctic cooling 64 pro. it looks like the best cooler for the price ($20 on Newegg!!). I hope I don't disappoint you VinDSL with not choosing the Zalman. 😉

Heh! Doesn't disappoint me, bro!

I have two Tuniq Tower 120s, and you have a AC64 Pro...

Who comes up the winner on that?!?!? 😀

You're young! You'll learn...

When you ASK for whats best there is really no best of the best....
every systm has its own little quirks....
with that saud...all the top heatsinks are within 1-3c of each other

My personnal favorites are the zalman 9500 and the 9700.....I also like the thermalRight XP120 and the si120 and the Ultra 120.....and theScythe Ninja and the Tuniq Tower
any of those would work just fine!!
