I'm about to play from the beginning, and I just bought all available DLC. I want to play everything with a new character.

What are your favourite MODS? Are there MODs that will work with the game + all DLC?

Things that drove me nuts about the first time I played FO3 that I would like to see changed:

-Higher than level 20 (though the new DLC changes it to 30 - do you only get the 30 with the new content, or do you get level 30 from the beginning of the original FO3 with the addons installed?)
-I couldn't hit anything without the targeting system. Would love a more FPS feel.
-Constantly repair guns & armor became tedious.
-Never ANY ammo for Lincoln's Repeater (My favorite gun in the game).
-Loved the radio broadcast... but the same songs became a little tedious.
-Maybe some cool new guns?

If you folks can recommend any mods that would with the above corrected, I would be much obliged.

ALSO,

Any mods that you love that don't necessarily encompass all of the factors above, but make game more interesting and worthwhile, please let me know those as well.

Thanks a million.

The best mod is one that makes users do a search because this question has been answered a dozen times before.

Also, my fave is the one that adds 50000 pounds to encumberance, because I get really damn tired of making trips in & out to clean up the loot from an area.

The falloutnexus has a lot of mods.
There's mods to remove the level cap.
Mods that make weapons fire more realistically (ie, less spread).
Mods that limit repairing or remove it altogether. Also, mods that increase the number of items that can be used to repair other items. (Scrap metal can repair anything!)
I'm sure there's mods for ammo.
There's mods to add a new radio station with new songs.
And plenty of mods to add new weapons, armor, textures, etc.

Great... thanks. Had a good laugh with that one first MOD suggestion! HAH!

I guess my biggest question, which I didn't make clear enough was that I do not know if these mods carry over throughout the DLC.

Do you happen to know that?... or perhaps a mod that will make me do a search on that one? ;)

The Pitt, Broken Steel, etc...

Just want to make certain that the mods I installed for the original FO3 will work on those addons.

The DLC works just like mods. If you don't have them selected in the FO3 launcher (or if you're not logged into Live!) they don't work. As far as I can tell, most mods are compatible with the DLCs (i have BS and PL and haven't had any problems with mods).

Fallout3 Nexus has all the mods.

I'm using Accurate Assault Rifles 1.2, Increased Weapon Durability, a mod that changes the CAR to use 5mm ammo, one that changes the .32 into a .357 (with a corresponding dmg increase), Scopeless .44s, and the GNR mod to give it more songs. I think the GNR mod is called "More where That Came From"

Edit: Lincolns Repeater and the .44 use the same ammo - .44 rounds. Save every one you find, and take the scrouger perk. I have like 300 .44 rounds because I haven't used any of them.

I think the vanilla game over all is good. So I didnt use very many game changer mods. I highly recommend "More where that came from" it comes in several versions that can add up to 100 songs to GNR.

There was also one that bumped up the number of spawns, regenerated ghouls that were not killed with a headshot as well as put neigh ghouls in outdoor regions at night. That was pretty fun, really had to use steath from time to time becasue if you got caught off guard you could have 20-30 ghouls running at you. Not to mention mutant camps with a dozen minigun toteing brutes.

I hadn't looked for any mods but had quit the game because a few of these things had bothered me enough to ruin the game for me. Mostly the horrible aim and no ammo. I guess if the aiming was fixed I wouldn't need a mod for the ammo because I wouldn't waste as many shots. Maybe I will install some mods and give this game another go.

Aside from the update that temporarily broke VATS (perk bonuses) I found aiming to be good. Good as in it reflected your characters skill level. Leveling your small weapons skill has a very real progression (feel) to it. By the time my character was approaching 20 I had 100 skill and a number of +Acc perks and could hit just about anything I was aiming at. When you start out your skills are supposed to suck, hell playing the original Fallouts you could waste 2-3 rounds just trying to punch a rat.

Im a packrat when it comes to RPGs and I always seemed to have oodles of ammo in FO3. One thing I did was when I was selling loot if the store ran out of caps I would just start buying what ever ammo they had as it could be resold and had no weight.

Also, being strategic can be advantageous. Place a few mines then take a few pot shots and have your enemies blow themselves up. Or do some interesting things, get the mod that makes explosives explosive, walk into a room and see a stack of mines\grenades\rockets just give?em a shot and they explode (and possibly chain reaction into other explosions). Not carrying a FatMan but need to make a big bang? Drop a mini nuke or 2, run, then hit it with a rifle round. I took out the caged behemoth at Evergreen Mills with 2 Mini Nuke rounds and a rifle round.

Or just specialize in stealth and snipe everything, when it only takes 1 shot to kill the enemy ammo goes a long way. Though if you?re a dedicated sniper get a mod that truly disables auto aim. There where a number of times there would be an enemy partially obstructed, Id line up my shot to cripple an arm\leg, fire and the round would decide to go instead for center mass.

Damnit! Reading this thread makes me want to play again, I don?t have any of the DLC yet but I don?t see myself spending $50 on it when the GOTY edition is due out for the same price. I need to finish studying for my MCSE.

Use VATS and only take shots when you're close enough to have 60%+ accuracy. If you run around FPS style all the time you will run out of ammo quickly.

Maybe I just didn't level up properly but it seemed even with a good accuracy he still missed horribly when he was like ~10ft away.

I just got the feeling that I could shoot better than this guy and I've never shot a gun before. It just pissed me off when I would be about 6ft away from my target and his shot would miss the guys head by a mile.

I think we already discussed this properly, but I believe one of the chief complaints was the devs couldnt decide if they wanted to make this game a shooter or an RPG. So they did both.
And the results are a mess. Very few people were completely satisfied with the style of combat. Most everyone wanted it to be more one way or the other.
Am pretty sure you can find mods that do just that, so its up to you how the game will be played.

I have a mod that reduces wear to items by 70%. I hated my guns going to bad condition within an hour of gameplay.

I love the game, but it's way too easy. At level 23 nothing can stop me. I can take down a dozen enclave troopers by myself with barely any health hit. The game needs to be harder...

I hated the vanilla game. The mods make it more bareable but it can't fix the story.

Have you tried Point Lookout?

Let me know if you can take down 3 Swampfolk without dying.

Level cap is raised to 30 outright with the DLC.
The Pitt allows you to convert ammo types so no more need to worry about not having enough ammo. (But you need to do The Pitt to be able to do that).
The DLC adds a few new guns, but not a huge number.
