Ah but does it support Win2K?
I have yet to find a cheap scanner that works in Win2k.

Plus, I have no room for a SCSI card. All 6 of my PCI slots and my AGP slots are full.

TV Capture/Video capture card
SB Live! Value
SB Live! Daughterward
Promise Ultra66 (used to solve issue with Zip drive being on same chain as main HDD)
Linksys 10 mb PNA NIC
Linksys 10/100 Ethernet NIC
Leadtek Winfast Geforce DDR

Pretty loaded system, heh. I think I can drop the PNA nic though...I can run Ethernet in my room to my server (thanks to my 5 port switch I got for xmas) and then PNA to the rest of the house, and free up a PCI slot which may go to something else as soon as I can figure otu what to shove into it.

And as mentioned earlier, those can't be had for $50.

And as ornery said I'm only running on a 15" screen so that means either 800x600 or 1024x768...I might go with integrated video and buy a slightly faster processor.

As of now I am looking for an Asus 810 board...

Oh well, about the scanner: Operating System Compatibility
  • Windows 95
  • Windows 98
  • Windows Millennium
  • Windows NT 4.0
  • Windows 2000
Yeah, the price is cheap, but I'd call it more a bargain than anything. Still gotta free up a slot though, sheesh!

i815 boards also can have onboard sound and ethernet so you can save on that.

just plug in cpu, ram, hdd, and cdrom and away you go (this makes for a very tidy case) plus you get a AGP slot if you need to upgrade video later.

Gunblaster -

After doing some research the past hour I have come to that conclusion as well. I am looking at the MSI 815 Pro (not 815e...uneeded) for $80 at AllStarShop. It's a very good price and now I am a big fan of MSI mobos after seeing their stability on my K7Pro, my friends K7T Pro 2A. And the more I think about it, the more I figure the 815's onboard video will be good enough for 800x600 on a 15" screen.

With regard to the scanner and printer, I am partial to Epson.

Id recommend their Stylus Colour 980 and Perfection 1640 for aroun £500, or their Stylus Colour 880 and their Perfection 1240 for around £250.
