O'Brien was cool, too.. but wasn't he just a transporter operator?

I think on Deep Space Nine (horrible series), he was the Engineer.

He was still a chief... he just fixed everything. I dunno what you'd call him really.

And remember the Scotty TNG episode? Scotty admitted to slacking off and stuff so that he could get stuff done fast if he needed to in order to be called a miracle worker.

O'Brien was Chief of operations on ds9. A prestige position, normally reserved for commissioned officers, he was promoted to chief warrant officer to fulfill the job. Most likely was recommended for the job by Picard and Geordi.

At least Geordi wasn't constantly whining that it couldn't be done and that they needed more time. If Scotty would have vaporized Kirk he'd have gotten my vote though.

I grew up watching TNG, but damnit people, Scotty would kick Mr. Reading Rainbows ass!

Scotty wrote the books Geordi used in the academy. Too bad Geordi was too stupid to realize Scotty listed the tolerances for parts below what they actually were, to give extra leeway in case of a crisis. :p

La forge. His eyes help, plus he's up to date on newer training, since he's younger and it was further in the future. He'd own mr. scott, no doubt about it.

Did you ever see Gordi In charge of the bridge when the Captiain went out to bang some alien chicks with his first officer? Nope....But Scotty was always the man on the ship. Scotty>everyone

And torres was hot, in a weird forehead but still female way.

Exactly. This question was answering in TNG. Scotty revealed himself to be a lazy baffoon. Of course, Data really does all of LaForge's work for him so they're both lazy asses.

AND, he was wise enough to sneak REAL scotch onto the ships instead of that Synthohol crap they were getting out of the replicators.

I just realized that all these threads are irrelevant because we all know data is the best engineer, the strongest most precise warrior, the fastest typist, the best captain (see the episode where he single handedly stops a cloaked Romulan attack involving the Klingon's...with a piss-ant first officer to boot) and the biggest badass. Plus, his head is motherfvcking removeable!

Sorry JulesMaximus, they will not let me work on the Enterprise anymore after the Hiesenberg incident ;)

Hindenberg incident?

Or was there an episode where they could figure out where the Enterprise was, but not when, and then they figured out when the Enterprise was, but not where.

But then in the 40th minute of the episode, they finally realized, as always, that it was a bunch of tachyons screwing them up, and they just had to squirt a bunch of anti-tachyons out.

If I was a Starfleet Captain, the FIRST thing I would do whenever any crazy sh!t happened is tell the freaking science officer:

Scan for tachyons. Do not open hailing frequencies. Do not go to red alert, lock on phasers or arm photon torpedoes. Do not collect $200. Do not stop by 10-Forward to get a bunch of idiotic Magic 8-Ball "wisdom" from Whoopi Goldberg.

Just scan for tachyons so that we can solve this problem quickly and go back to using the holodeck for nefarious purposes.

Scotty was always complainin. Captain the weee little engines cant take it. Captain, weve got people diein down here. whomp whomp. He would never give a straight answer when it was needed. Geordi on the other hand was just as good as scotty and gave straight answers. Plus he could see more things than regular eyes could.
