Best Emuators?

I am looking for the best emulators for win7 for the following consoles

NES
SNES
Genesis
N64

I want to install them on my HTPC but can't seem to find any good ones that will run at 1080p

As far as i can tell...

NES = fceux
SNES = snes9x
Genesis = Gens
N64 = no idea

Only one im 100% sure is the best is gens, the others im not sure but they were the most current i could find at the time.

For SNES, ZSNES and Snes9x both work very well. I think ZSNES has slightly better support for some rare roms, but SNES9x has it's own pros like a better interface. Also SNES9x is still being updated regularly so new features and fixes are added which is always good.

KGen is a nice alternative to Gens for Genesis emulation. It also handles Master System and Game Gear. I think it scales games to higher resolutions a bit better too.

The go to emulator for N64 is Project64. Supports alternate texture packs.

I like Fusion for genesis, and zsnes for snes.

I use ZNES. It allows you to adjust the resolution. I keep it at the 4:3 aspect ratio though.

ZNES was never friendly for me, when it came to entering in game genie codes. I stick to SNES9X.

I can't remember the NES emulator I used to use, without re-downloading a few.. But I remember it had all the game genie codes preloaded, which was awesome.

Ooh, and Finalburn Alpha is a nice emulator for CPS2/NeoGeo.

The best SNES emulator I can think of is BSNES, extremely precise.

Really we're at the point where most consoles before last-gen are really well emulated. Our hardware is so far advanced relative to the consoles and the emulation software is so mature its hard to go wrong. There's some exceptions (Dreamcast and Saturn come to mind) but most other consoles are almost completely emulated by any 'major' emu.

SNES - SNES9x
N64 - Project 64

Also if you want to play and first person shooters you *must* check out the keyboard/mouse plugin for project64. Playing Goldeneye and Perfect Dark with keyboard/mouse control is awesome. 🙂

I use Jnes cuz its simple and works well. Easy to use game shark and game genie.

I like SNES9x cuz it has lots of display modes including open GL which looks awesome.

I'm gonna throw VirtuaNES out there. It's been as good to me as fceux, and works better for me in Win7 (I can't recall the details for the life of me, but I had some screwiness in 7 64-bit w/ fceux). It has been abandoned, I think, though. I never could like Jnes.

Running at native resolution, ZSNES is simply not a viable option, so SNES9x it is. BSNES has lofty goals, and is a neat project, but it is just too slow.

The only 64 game I remember ever having a problem with was Ogre Battle 64, and even then (at least on PJ64) it's usually just a matter of juggling some plugins until you find a working combo. I was pretty successful emulating PSX as well, but past that support gets a bit more spotty in my experience. Plus we have the benefit of more widespread backwards compatibility in modern consoles.

Yoshi's Story has horrible video rendering. As well as many other games.
Audio is terrible to greater or lesser degrees on most games.

I had to invest into a N64 controller, N64-USB converter & replace the joy, but now can play N64 on a proper controller. Didn't quite wanna spend as much as I did, but at least it feels more natural than 360 controller.

It would have been nice to get PS1/2 emulators working properly. I had to box up my console stuff to make room to get my computers proper ventilation. Have a box of games can't really sit down and play.
Anytime I try the games, they don't play, or run like crap. Lame.

Most Factor5 games have issues since they use custom microcode.
