I know it's not possible, but I want an electric razor that can shave as smooth as a blade, or as close as I can get to it. Something I can take in the shower as well.
What do you guys use?

If you shave in the shower and have thin facial hair (IIRC, you do), then what's wrong with using a blade in the shower? It's quicker and easier than using an electric.

unfortunately, an electric just cant get as close as a blade since all electric shavers have some sort of guard or screen.

My younger bro uses the Braun 8995. I've used it in the past, and like all electric shavers that I have experimented with, they irritate my face quite a bit (redness, burn). For my younger bro, however, its the best shaver.

I never have time in the morning really. I can bring an electric with me.
And I think an electric razor is easier.

you'll get sick of it and go back to a blade, i promise ;)

unless you're really lazy, and can out up with an inferior shave.

Yep, blades are best IMO but if the electrics don't burn your face or neck go for it. Electrics are good for shaving your head. Still nothing as close as a blade.

My advice is to see if you can borrow a buddy's electric shaver to see if it irritates your face. If it does, your curiousity for electric shavers is pretty much over and you will have to find some time to use the normal manual.

I've used a Norelco for a few years now and find it to be almost as close as a blade, faster, and more convenient.

edit: When I first started using it, it irritated my face... The skin adjusts after 2-3 weeks of normal use.

They will give you a burning sensation if you do not wait a few weeks to shave again. The manufacture even tells you on a piece of paper or in the manual when you buy an elelctric shaver.

I used to have one. I liked it, but it broke. It was a $100 model from Target with gel in it.
Never irritated my face.
I just don't really know what works well out there anymore. The model I used is no longer made.

It's the Braun Activator 8585. The shave it quite nice. In the past I've used a Panasonic electric shaver and I've also shaved manually with a razor. After I am finished shaving, I stick it back into the base and it determines how much of a cleaning it needs. Then I push a button and it cleans the shaver. The only downside to the shaver is that you have to constantly buy new cleaning cartridges which are about $15-$20 for a pack of 3.

Oh yea, I should mention, you can't take this into the shower.

I have been using the Braun 8985 for the last six months and love it. It is useless if you let your beard grow long though but if you shave every day or every few days it works like a charm. It's a self cleaning model and after every shave it keeps it clean and smelling fresh. You just need to purchase the liquids to repace it every month or so. A two pack is like $10-$15 at target so its not that expensive.

I recommend you get that one if you are going to pick one up. It is around $100-$150 at target but I heard they are cheaper at Costco if you have a membership. So shop around and find the best deal but I recommend you buy it in a store with a good return policy in case you don't like it. Everyones face is different and reacts differently so buyer beware.

An electric won't get as close as a blade. FWIW though, I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/Braun-FreeControl...05?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1176994373&sr=8-2

It's cheap ($30), but it's highly rated and you can see that it sells very well.

I've been using it for a couple of months. My face felt funny for the first week or so, but now it's great. Like I said, it won't cut as close as a blade. It also isn't great at cutting long hairs.

My problem with shaving with a blade is that I don't like doing it, so I'd do it maybe every third day. Not only did I look like crap, it's also not fun shaving 3 days of growth all the time. The electric is easy, so even though it doesn't give me a really close shave, I do it every day so it doesn't look bad.

If you want a close, smooth shave, forget about it. Stick with your blade.

ive owned a few electrics, and its been my experience that the brauns performed better than the panasonics and norelcos.

however i still do use a razor for when i miss those tricks spots on the neck

That one. I have a thick shave and I get BABY smooth skin using that, and no irritation or ingrown hairs. It's as if I went against the grain with a razor, that's how close a shave I get.

That said, it will take a few weeks to get used to it. Make sure you shave with a dry face, not a wet face. The beard hair will cut better when dry and stiff. And don't give up. Once you get used to it, you'll NEVER go back to a blade!

I use Brauns and love them. I've tried others and they suck.

For those saying to borrow your friends and see if it irritates you, that isn't a good idea. Most likely it WILL irritate you the first time you use it. Hell even switching between electricts will irritate you for the first few days or week.

Every single electric razor I've tried did not work as well as a cheap disposable razor. If your lifestyle has something to do with it, I would suggest getting a portable electric for those times when you don't have time to use a blade.

I need to remember to post in this thread when I get home because I actually enjoy my current electric razor quite a bit. It doesn't have any of that auto cleaning crap, but it will work in the shower and it gives a nice shave while not causing much damage. The only burn issues I have is if I shave way too far down my neck.

I have a single foil one from Target that good good reviews on Amazon. It's not nearly as good as a blade, and I haven't used it in months. It causes irritation and isn't as close. It would take me about 15 min to shave.
