I have been using Outlook Express for awhile, and I would like to know if there is anything better out their.

I need the following:
[ ] Ability to have multiple identities
[ ] Multiple Folders
[ ] Signature added to outgoing messages
[ ] Message Rules based on various settings (keywords in messages, from address, ect)
[ ] Won't run slow when some folders contain up to 10,000 messages
[ ] Not a req. but would still be nice to have a program that would be easy to backup from one computer to the next. That way I could easily transfer files from one hard drive to another.
[ ] Needs to be able to paste messages in certain folders. Basically, if I copy/paste the messages from one folder in OE to a folder on my hard drive, all of the e-mail messages are pasted as .eml (some extension like that). I would need this program to be able to do the same without going to File > Save E-Mail Message As.

Any suggestions what I should try?
 
It is funny watching Thunderbird try to import my 50,000 messages. Been at least 5 minutes now, not even halfway through lol
 
I too have been using Thunderbird and am very impressed. Also check out the ad on extensions. some of them are VERY useful. Best of all...1000% FREE!!!
 
I'm guessing you're only looking at free software, otherwise I recommend Outlook. I have folders with several thousand messages in them (kind of like an archive) and they don't lag up whatsoever. It has most (if not all) of the features you listed. For easy backup you'll need to download a separate Outlook plug-in from Microsoft's website which will allow you to select a backup location as well as set up a backup routine.
 
I have Outlook, but seemed like that OE was a little bit better...

For identities... try adding a -p switch to shortcut. That's how you can have multiple identities for Firefox, but I'm not sure if it works with Thunderbird.
 
How do I "switch" to that identity?

Thunderbird might handle identities differently than Outlook Express does.

Basically, and Identity is something that should allow multiple people to the OE at different times. When they log into their identity, only their messages show up.

The only annoying thing about it is when you click a mailto link it opens but doesnt start a message with the address.

Start -> All Programs -> Mozilla Thunderbird -> Profile Manager

Or do as igowerf suggested above.
