Best DVD-R media?

Hi...I tried searching for this, but came up empty. My new Sony DVD burner should be here soon, and I need to get some media for it. Looking at the DVD compatability charts, I see that my set-top DVD player only works with DVD-R, so I'm looking to pick up good (preferrably 4x) DVD-R media. Any suggestions for best compatability?

Also, would you say that -RW or +RW is better for data backup and rewriting? Just curious as to which I should likely use, since my writer records all 4 formats.

I also am getting a Sony.DRU-510A to be exact.
I to am wondering what the best media is.
Wanting 4x DVD-r and also 4x DVD -+RW.
