I am getting a Sony DRU-510A and was wondering what everyone thought was the best DVD copying software out there and why. I appreciate your recommendations.

DVDXcopy rings a bell?

I am looking for a good online resource for information like that..

making proper backups of certain types of things, software to use, ETC.

i used to have some of this stuff bookmarked but i don't appear to have what i thought i had... i need some of this information too :)

DVDXCopy works like a charm. From what I understand it makes an exact copy of the original DVD (no compression or loss of video/sound quality). Keep in mind some single DVD's will require going to 2 recordable DVD's. BTW - I use a DRU500A and it's been flawless with DVDXCopy.

DVDXcopy is good, however it doesn't let you make a copy of a copy. Many others will.
doom9 is probably the best sorce of DVD/divx/xvid/vdc/ect info around.

i was making dup copies of dvd's for a while, but have since switch to burning them using divx. i max out the quality and still get great burns using only 300~400MB's. i then burn a couple of these movies on dvd. of course i watch all my movies on my computer, so this may be an issue for those wanting to watch them on their ht's.

DVD Shrink v3.0 Beta 5 (It's Freeware! :D ) for ripping/re-authoring...

...and Nero 6 for burning (it can be found practically for free! ;) )

Nero is great because you can select the write speed (Don't try to write a 1x disk @ 2X, kids) and it will even "Verify Data" after the disk is written.

Sweet!

IMHO, DVD X Copy (Gold, Express or Platinum) is a waste of money and produces inferior disks that contain "Backup DVD" and "FBI" warnings...
They will also write 1X disks @ 2X, often with POOR results (artifacts). The last time (and only time :D ) I used CloneDVD, it refused to copy a copy-protected disk.

A driver program called "AnyDVD". It masks the DVD's identity as a copy protected disk. Blocks regional information, too.

Run it in the background, then start CloneDVD.

Er, or so I'm told...
