Pioneer DVD-ROMs have always been the favourite with me....the slot loaders are cool 🙂

Pioneers = jet engine sound

Toshibas are quiet, but they do not have as good of DAE.

Pioneer slot loads (any version/speed-IDE or SCSI) for DVD. If you burn enough where DAE is so important then I would suggest getting a fast reader but that's just me. 🙂

I love my Toshiba 16X DVD drive. Quite and detects the media fast.

Basically, everyone is gonna recommend either the Toshiba or Pioneer so your finally choice will be between the two.
