Most of the NEC and LiteOns you find are OEM drives with no software. Newegg sometimes does an OEM Drive + software bundle but you often have to look at the picture gallery to be sure you are getting some software. The Plextor comes in a retail kit with just about all you need - Roxio 7, PlexTools and at least one piece of blank media.

I have nothing but goodluck with Pioneer. My first one 2x burner was Pioneer and my latest one DVR108 burn anything with no problem. If I use good brand name media it burns faster than the suggested speed. 8X TDK will burn at X16 with no problem (I had my nero set to burn at Max speed. When it started burning it just burn at X16 I thought the disc wouldn't be playable after burnt but it played with no problem what so ever.

I use Nero to burn all my DVD/CD. I would definately recommend Pioneer from my good personal experiences.
 
anybody have an idea of why i can't copy a backup dvd? i have no problems with copying my original but can't make a copy of the backup. using dvdshrink 3.2 / nero 6.6.x.x / pioneer dvd-rom and nec2500a dvd-rw and ritek 8x media. all i get are crc errors.
