Brute speed is not a high priority, just functionality and reliability...

I currently have a Plextor 712A for my rig which appears to work great. I'm piece parting a rig together for my Dad and wanted to get something cheaper than the 712A (which is approximately $100)...

Are there any DVDs with similar functionality that are closer to my $50 lower end of the budget...

Too bad they don't seem to make the Benq1640 anymore. Anyone know if the 1655 is the same hardware just with Light Scribe?

You know, I have had two Plextors, and I won't ever get them again. Yes, they are good, but they aren't worth the extra money. I'm getting Lite-Ons from now on. Speaking of which, I've got to put my two Plexies up for sale... Yeehah.

FTW!

I have this drive, and it's been nothing short of great for me. I love it. I got it for about $40 retail.

If you want to spend a bit more, you can get a Plextor slot-loading burner, which I think it pretty neat. Plextor is also coming out with an 18X burner, so look out for that. And look out for your wallet too. :)

i've bought 5 of these drives for myself and others and have been very pleased with them, especially for how cheap they are.
