BEST DVD Backup Software between these two

door #2. its my favorite. its simple, and does just what i need it too. no extra crap and annoying stuff.

i feel like both your choices are good if you want a good UI, but require multiple steps to do a simple task.

go with dvd shrink - simple, non-cluttered UI, a total of 2 "steps" (scan and backup) - can do everything from compression to reauthoring (remove menu screens, languages, extras).

Seems like the first one is all in one? I currently use DVD Decrypter but heard its no longer being updated and may not work with some of the New DVD that I want to backup. Now I just bought Flightplan from Costco and Decrypter still works on that . BUt just trying to look ahead.

Has anyone had expereince with #1?

clonedvd(from slysoft and OLLI..the other "stole" the name) is very simple and I have used for about 2 yrs now...

If youre planning on using CloneDVD, you might as well save your money and use DVDShrink... Both are capable transcoders with the latter not costing you a dime.

I have DVD Shrink and it's worked fine but I been reading Shrink and Decrypter is in some sort of legal trouble?

Btw, I bought #1 and it works great!

Both are not being developed anymore with the maker of Shrink being gobbled up by Ahead (nero) to develop for them, and the creator of DVDdecrypter dropping his project to avoid legal problems.

Not that I care, but if you've purchased CloneDVD, you pretty much just purchased a repackaged version of DVDshrink - which did I mention, is free...

CloneDVD from slysoft is not too bad .. I have and use DVDFabplatinum which will make an exact copy
of a DVD with or without shrinking & can burn to a Dual Layer DVD if you have it .. works well
