Best dual system on the horizon

What are you guys most looking forward with regard to dual platforms? I know everyone is going to say 760MP. I want to try out a 760MP so bad I can taste it, but what other AMD/Intel dual platforms are one the way? Just casually looking around on the net, I can't find too much info for the coming dual chipsets.

Dual paliminos look good but intels new dual fosters looks to be a pretty good combo too.

As of April 25, 2001, the best dual system is a dual 1 GHz P3 on a ServerWorks chipset motherboard with gigs of RAM.

But arn't serverworks chipset pretty crappy when it comes to the AGP Graphics department? HEard somewhere that they make only fair Graphic workstations. Make Totally kick arse servers though..🙂

Edit: BTW ===> 760MP = EXPENSIVE!!!! You thought Intel boards were expensive, wait till ya see the Duel palo. Boards...🙂

Then I vote for Tyan Tiger 100 or Supermicro P6DBE (I'm buying this one soon) or any other reliable dual BX boards. 🙂

That ServerWorks post shows how ignorant I am about video cards. 😉

I had read a few different places that the AGP implementation on the serverworks HEsl chipset was pretty poor. I went in search of reviews that test out the graphics performance, and could find none.

I'd be really interested in seeing how this board performed (because I do also like to play a lot of games). If it did well, it might be good to tie me over until we see how the 760mp and dual p4 stuff does.

dual palominos are going to be dirty expensive. and games aren't SMP aware, for the most part. q3 is, but it only runs sound on the second processor. so you're getting not much performance for big $$$.

Unless you got 10 hands, I doubt that you'll take advantage of quad Xeons. 🙂

Also, quad CPU means that you need Windows 2000 Server.

Doesn't look like there are too many good options for dual cpu's right now. Too bad. I'd really like to try one sometime without having to step into older chipsets or via.

Bp6 forever....
But you are limited to older celerons.(I think some people have found how to use the P3's but not sure)
Also it is fairly old

It's not playing games that makes me want a dual system. I can get by with what I do on a single cpu just fine, but I WANT a dual system. So when I find a good dual solution, that's what I'll get. Doesn't matter if it helps with gaming performance or not. And I don't like Q3 at all.

Guys, we can't base the costs of a 760MP system on one motherboard. Yes, Tyan's K7 Thunder (I think that's what it's called) is a monster. However, that does not mean that every SMP Athlon mobo is gonna cost more than one month's rent (at least where I live).

I bet ya they will all cost a months rent..🙂

Something to do with AMD's fancy memory bus (Hyper Transport?) being a pain in the ass to manufacture. Also the PCB is supposed to be really, really expensive..
