I've read that two 660s in SLI are pretty good compared to a gtx 680, beating it infact, for less money. Possibly want to look into that?

I'm thinking about replacing my HD 4890 crossfirex setup with a pair of new cards.

The HD 7870 Tahiti LE in crossfirex looks like the best performance I can get for under 500$.

Is there anything else I should consider in this price range? (400-600$).

No matter the manufacturer.

OP - what resolution do you want to play at ? If you want to play at 1080p, I would say GTX660 or 660Ti. GTX 660 would be more than enough. It outperforms 680-7970 by quite a lot (and costs less). Don't listen to the red army recommending crossfire, it is shit and not worth your money right now.

yes, deep down I've always known that the gtx 660 edges out the 680 in 1080p, especially when you turn up the AA.

Even if you don't notice major issues with Crossfire, you still get smoother performance from SLI. Ultimately you buy the best setup for the smoothest performance. FPS is one method to figure out which is smoother, but frame rating is showing why so many review sites have always noticed SLI gave smoother results, even if they have lower FPS.

Smoother game play is ultimately your goal, so don't discount it so quickly.

Who says this kind of crap? Why are these forums starting to fill up with 12 year old kids with self esteem issues?

The 7870 Tahiti LE is a 7930 correct? I'd either go up to a 7950 or just do a 7870 or 660. The 7870 Tahiti LE uses a lot of power and runs fairly hot from what little I have read on it.

Leaving aside all the trolling, 660 SLI is a good option it's really cheap at the moment and is very almost as fast as 7870 CF.

While CF does work fine in most instances there are certain games where SLI is better.

But really the main draw of the 660 is the price, for under $400 you can have a setup that outperforms both the 680 and 7970GE.

I have an Antec True power 1200 And an Corsair AX 1200.

Thanks for responding. 2 good units

I ask because I see people with issues and their PSU's are often of a bit lower a standard. Coil whine, unstable O/C's, etc... Just doing an informal survey. ;)
