Best dual channel memmory

Going to pick up ASUS's new SLI NForce 4 board and even though minimal testing has been done with this board what do you think the best Dual chanhel memory will be to go along with it?


What are the "big dogs" of daul channel memory and why? (what benchmarks and websites are saying so?)

Hope this thread can clean up some misinformed ATers about dual channel mem *(INCLUDING MYSELF 🙂 )
 
The memory controller makes cpu think you got 1 512mb instead of 2-256mb. All you need is a pair of identical memory. Some vendors will sell their memory in a pair. Single or dual memory is the same thing. Any of the name brands would be good to get. If you like a brand of ddr memory just get 2 of em.
 
Don't think it makes much difference except for overclocking. Just get the most basic reliable ram you can, I got basic Crucial ram on my system, works fine.
 
if you want some good overclocking dual channel memory, go from OCZ or Corsair ram. i hear Mushkin are also worth considering. google search some benchamrks
 
Ok so dual channel ram is more of a hype thing? ill google for some reveiws here in a bit.

Im not looking to overclock really im looking for some reallly god damn fast memmory and i thought dual chan was the only way to go if thats what you want.
 
Why do you want "damn fast memory"? I had two sticks of "dual pack" Mushkin Special 2-2-2-6 ram, and I don't see any difference in my computers performance over the 3-3-3-8 Crucial stuff I'm using now. Its a lot of hype, just like Artic Silver and Monster Cables.

However, if you decide to overclock, then the faster stuff can come in handy. I just don't bother o'cing anymore, my machine goes plenty fast enough and I prefer quiet over speed.

why wouldnt you want "damn fast memory". Thats the whole point of upgrading, i want faster and quicker memory. Is that so hard to understand?? I wanted to learn more about dual channel memory and i have done a little bit of that here. Which im glad for.
 
Well i installed the newest sandra and went to memory benchmark utility thing and its not brand specific (just shows type of chipset and proc comany *amd *intel) Then had the speed (PC3200 etc..)
so i couldnt get any good info from that

anyone point me to better results that are brand specific?
 
U're not going to notice going from 3-3-3-8 memory to 2-2-2-6 memory. Its just waited money. You'll likely notice going from 2500+ to 3200+, so spend your money there. I frankly will no longer upgrade unless I'm guaranteed a very noticable increase in performance, that would mean doubling what I have now.
 
If your not planning on doing any overclocking, then do not waste your money on all that fancy stuff
 
ok Corsair Value 2x512mb for $160

or High Speed as u like... OCZ El Platinum 2x512mb for $270 which was the champ on nf3.. hope the same for nf4...

Ur choice.

Have you read any reviews? Anandtech did a huge Athlon 64 memory roundup a while ago, look for it.

Wow good guide, i found it and read the whole thing.

Crucial Ballistix look really good as well as perform like a hoss, all the memory in the tests over clocked well. Although the Ballistix have micron chips that were used in the discontinued OCZ 3700EB and 3500EB. But damn the ballistix are expensive. (doubt ill go with those)

Looks like the OCZ Rev 2 kicks some butt as well, but then again a 260+ price tag really hurts.

I may end up going with some mid end OCZ, as i can see that overclocking does bring huge gains (upwards of 50 percent more performance) but for that price tag its iffy.

OCZ may be my pick here..
