Best digital camera?

Does anyone have any ideas on what the best digital camera under $600 is? Money isn't an issue up to that point, so I really do want the best. Its going to be a present for someone who really likes cameras, but doesn't yet have a digital one.
I'm currently looking at the Kodak DC4800, but does anyone else have any other ideas?

I personally like the Canon G1... its a little chuncky but i still think its damn nice... the Powershot Elph S100 is also nice if you want it small.

Thanks RossMAN! Those sites are a big help

You're welcome.

I'm sure you already know this but the Kodak DC4800 had a $100 rebate, I'm not sure if it's still available though.

Yes, the rebate is still available - I just turned mine in. The DC4800 is a great camera, btw 🙂

Yeah I saw the $100 rebate at the local CompUSA. Wasn't sure whether that was the one I wanted to get. I've managed to narrow my choices down to the Olympus C3040Z and the Sony DSC-S75

My first posting here... so go easy on me ;-)

I used the Sony S70 & S75 Digital Cams, & they're both real great. The S75 is priced at around $750. Some say the sharpness of S70 is better. I would suggest going in for the S70. Uses the memory stick, & is a handy & small camera. Looks nice! There are a few doublers available too, for the zoom. I've seen the results, & I must say I was pretty impressed.

On the other hand, another great digital camera, albeit a little expensive, is the Nikon 990 (I think it's from the CoolPix Series?), but I haven't tried it out personally so I don't know how great it is. The results speak for themselves though... & after all, it IS a Nikon. Can't go wrong with one!
