Best Digital Camera???????????

The best digital camera is Canon EOS-1Ds. 11MPix, awesome clarity, I highly recommend it to anyone. Only costs $8,000.

Whats considered best if a personal preference. I own and love my Olympus C-5060WZ. It is 5.1 megapixels, has a swivel viewfinder, takes my 1 gig microdrive and XD memory, does everything you could think of and actually takes very good video with sound. Plus it can take a standard flash because it has a hotshoe built in and I put my professional Olympus flash from a 15 year old SLR camera and it works perfectly with it. This camera does everything and then some. Of course it is my opinion. I got it about a month ago on newegg for 528 plus free shipping and it came with the 32meg standard XD panarama mem (which the camera can do) and a free 128meg xd. Check it out.

Got the same camera, the 5060, aint it good 🙂

Only complaint is pictures are a bit noisy at ISO400

Have to define "best". Best for what @ what price?

I have 2 best (for me) cameras.

Minolta A1
5 MP
28 - 200mm stabilized mechanical zoom GT lens
hot shoe
great low light AF with 3D tracking
live histogram
Full manual controls
bracketing
interval photography
fast shutter speeds
RAW format
WAY too much else to list

Canon S400
4 MP
very small shirt pocket size
point & click auto
Nice keep it with you, go on a hike/vaca camera

Two very different cameras for different uses.

high end NIkon DSLR or Canon DSLR.

wished i owned both or either. those are the best. but if you're taking shots of your dog taking a crap, you won't need such a great camera.

depends on how much you like to spend. in DSLR, currently canon leads , peace, no intend for another C&N war. and don't forget expensive Lens. for top line, easily cost you 10k+.

I'm disappointed that the Foveon chips haven't made any market movement lately...comparing pics from that high end Canon EOS and it, I liked the color reproduction better...

O.K. since there's such a big spectrum when its comes to digital cameras and what they can do. Let's break this down into high tier $1800-1300 and med tier $1300-500.

Best prosumer camera is digital rebel.

Best comsumer camera is the A80.

Both from Canon.

Anything else violates my price/performance threshold.

Yeah, the BEST camera out there is the EOS-1Ds. Sure, it's expensive, but I wouldn't want anything less if I needed to make a living by taking pictures with my camera.

Have you adjusted the noise settings on the camera?

Sony FV-828
For the 8MP "Prosumer" cameras, the Minolta A2 > the Pro 1 or 828. They all are 28 - 200mm but only the A2 has image stabilization. The A2 and 828 both have a mechanical zoom, the Pro 1 is "ring zoom by wire". The A2 also has less CA/PF than the Canon or Sony, and better ergonomics, as well as the best EVF in the business with 4X the res of anything else. The A2 is a little bigger than the Pro 1, but the 828 is ridiculously big and heavy. For a 5MP camera, the Minolta A1 is >>>> than a G5. Two totally different classes of camera.

Personally I have a Canon A70 that I'm very happy with currently. My brother has a 5MP Sony (DSC92 er somtehing like that.....) that he is very happy with. From what I've read the Rebel series is supposed to be pretty great to work with...... Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Polaroid x530
Nice looking.

I have 3 beefs w/ that camera.
-SD cards - I want to put a microdrive in there!
-No image stabilization
-Want a 10x optical zoom

The Panasonic FZ-10 would be great except it also uses SD.

It's the Canon S1 that's looking like the money. Good size, nice glass w/ a big zoom, image stabilization, doesn't use proprietary batteries, takes CF (microdrive!) and has that Canon mojo. I'd take that zoom and IS over more pixels anyday.

Canon, for the next version please do this camera in black w/ the Foveon and a hot shoe.

The lack of a hot shoe and the smallish 3 MP killed the S1 for me. It's SOOO nice having a dedicated TTL flash that I can bounce and have nice lighting, and NO RED EYE problems with my Minolta A1. Other than that, the S1 is a nice camera.

I wouldn't get wrapped around the axel on AA Vs prop Lith Ion batteries. I've had both and its not a big deal. The LiON are smaller, lighter, hold a charge longer than even good NiCad AA. If you price a camera with AA, factor in the cost of a set of NiCads and a charger. I do prefer CF myself since every camera I have uses it.

A bit off topic, have you tried the BP-511 Canon Lithium-Ion batteries that are sold on Ebay? For about $5...

No, but I did get (3) NB-1LH batteries from EBay for $4 each for my Canon S400. My Minolta A1 uses NP-400.

At 10X be sure you have steady hands or a tripod!

When I use the camera @ 10x I use extra care or I use my monopod.
