Hey all,

I'm lookin to buy a camera in the next couple of days for my brother's graduation.

I havent researched these things in a long time, but the last time I checked the Canon Powershot A70 (I think) was the best deal.

What do u guys think about a mid-level camera now? Price range is probably $250-$350

Any thoughts on the Sony DSC-P8?

Personally I would go with the A70 as that is what I have and it's awesome. I just took like 40 pics at my brother's graduation today.

Stay away from sony and their stupid memory sticks (just my opinion).

It might be a little more expensive ($379 I think at outpost.com) but check out the FujiFilm S5000. It's an excellent camera for the price and has some awesome features. It shoots fast, has some pro options like a last 5 shooting mode. You can hold down the shutter release and continuoulsy take pictures at probably 2-3 FPS and when you lift the shutter release it will save the last 5 shots it took. Extremely useful for sports/action shots. It also has good zoom and take excellent pictures.

Personally I have an Olympus E-20N but you probably don't want to spend that much :p

I gave a friend a new A70 last fall - he died a few months later, but thorughly enjoyed it while he had it. I have had 5 Olys and now a Canon. Fujis are OK too. But - for the money, you can't beat the A70.

OK, that puts things in perspective . . . :Q

(BTW, my vote is for Canon A series)
