i'm sick of my horrible visoneer digital camera that i got for $70 at a OD special. I'm looking to replace it with a quality camera that willl last me for a long time. What do you guys suggest? I've heard good things about Canon :)

I have the canon s200 and it takes good pictures. Unless you need something hardcore, it should suffice.

Yeah but what does it come with?

He's also going to need a set of rechargable batteries and a bigger CF card.

I see an A70 in your future. If you can swing the A75, go for it.. but the A70 is a fine camera.

Is that what kind of camera you want?

Or do you want one thats a little bigger, with more features.. primarily optical zoom?

what's the main difference? i don't really know what's good in digital camera. all i want is the best bang for buck but will last me for a long time. And no cheapo cameras (like the horrible visioneer digicam i have now)

if you need an ultra compact then the A series will not be good.

Outside of that you cannot go wrong with A60/70/75/80. If buying today I'd go with the 75. I have a 70 and it's a great camera. All the reports you may see of blurryness and the like with the A series is due to selecting the wrong modes. It's a real camera in the sense that you should manually operate it for critical shots. Auto works great many times but sometimes not so well (shooting on all black or all white images were exposure is critical for one).

The best price on the A75 recently was $150...it should happen again. You should be able to get a A70 for that price with extras. They are basically equal performers. The 75 offers larger LCD, more presets, a better 'button' arrangement, and an auto rotate image function (that I can't find confirmed).
