Best digicam? $450-600

not sure about the olympus cameras but the nikon coolpix line are amazing...i dont think you can go wrong with them.

you can probably pick up an 880 for around 600 bucks, while back there was a deal and you could get the 950 for 600 after some rebates...keep an eye out for nikon stuff as its very high quality...they've also got the new coolpix 775 about to com out for around 450 or so.

A lot of people say olumpus or nikon. But according to me, each has problems thar are too big to neglect. The nikon has a very flimsy cover for the memory card and this breaks with almost anybody with hard hands. Every review talks about this problem. The lens does not have a fixed cover and you can lose the cover everytime you take it out. As for the olumpus, they do not have a USB connecton in the price range you are talking about. Every time, connecting a serial port and waiting for 15 minutes to download a few photos is not my cup of tea. And with memory prices shooting down, just imagine downloading 128mb of photos via serial !!!

I personally have a Casio QV-2000, one of the most underated cameras in the world. Its a 2MP camera with USB connection AND serial connection. Battery life is good and the lcd display is very fast and not at all grainy. The camera can take any CF-II cards including the IMB microdrive (Upto 520MB microdrives are available!!!). The camera has a inbuild lens coer that safely protects the lens. It can take small movies and store them as AVI files !!! The menu's are the most beautiful ones available in any camera. The on camera modification like white balance and metering (You can see the effect on the lcs as soon as you chosse the options !). Video out in PAL/NTSC is available. All in all, its the camera to get. All my photos come out great and the macro mode is also pretty functional.

Here is a review of the camera at steves digicam's site)
Review of Casio QV-2000

the canon s10 had amazing picture qaulity, but lack of 3x optical zoom.

the a20 seems like a nice candidate, using AA, and 3x optics. But you lose a TAD on size, the all metal body, and the LCD for little info like # of shots left/flash/red-eye/etc.

well I went out and bought a Canon Powershot Elph S100 today. I also am going out with a lady friend tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to score some pics tonight🙂

thanks for the link🙂

Well...I took some shots tonight...and while it has good iamge quality, I just can't help but feel that I should send it back and wait awhile until the 3.3megapixel canons digi elph series. This thing is the raddest camera ever...but I just want the higher res.

This thing sure does get hot🙂 The best thing about this camera, IMO, is the fact that the majority of it isn't built with plastics. The parts that are extremely cheap (the battery cover and the memory card cover) feeling, are of course the parts made out of plastic. Thank goodness that the plastic is limited to those parts🙂

I really love the cam, but I think I'm going to return it. I need a 3.3!!
