Second hand stores are a good way to go but you have to be patient and go often. I got the nicest pair of shoes I have ever owned at a Salvation Army store for $20. Rich dead people leave behind a lot of nice stuff.

Other places I go for good deals are the outlet stores. I got a few things from the banana republic and I got a $1000 Hugo Boss jacket for a little over $200 (over 50% off regular and then on sale for another 50% or so).

Oh and I also check out a store here called Winners (I know there is an American equivalent but don't know the name). It's the place they bring all the factory rejects. Most of the time it is an extremely minor flaw. You can get $250 Diesel jeans for $100 etc.
