Best defrag software for win2k please !

Hi,
What software do you recommend to do a good and fast defrag in win2k ?

Thanks
Thor

No need to post the EXACT thread again after I had already moved it to the Software forum where it belongs. I had also sent you an email notifying you of the move.

The defrag software installed with win2k is already one of the better softwares out there. If memory serves me correctly, it is a "lite" version of a well known defrag software. Someone want to clarify this?

ps: I found that if you use the NTFS file system it defrags much faster, but you will need to defrag more often.

Hi,
The reason why I don't like the defrag software that comes with win2k is that its too slow.
I use fat32, and it reads every 3 seconds on the disk even when not working. And it is way too slow when defraging. And yes DMA is enabled. Maybe there is a bug when using fat32 with win2k and that defrag software.

With NTFS I almost never have to defrag.

BTW, the software you are referring to is called DiskKeeper.

HansXP,

I remember reading somewhere the difference between fat32 and NTFS. NTFS supposedly writes your data everywhere so it's more secure. (don't know if i explained this clearly) Thus you will need to defrag more often than none. When I used NTFS in win2k, I would analyze weekly and it would be quite a mess... (just my experience) Anyhow, someone verify this.
