I say either Guns N Roses Appetite for destruction or Van Halen's first one. Anyone think of any one better?
those are both outstanding.

Hendrix, Elvis Presley, and the Beatles had tremendously good debut albums too.

"With the Beatles" was pretty good.
that's not their debut album 😀

Boston: Boston 1976 11th best selling album of all time, and highest début album for anyone.
16 million copies have been sold in the USA alone.

A few names that first come to mind:

Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
Oasis - Definitely Maybe
Modern Talking - The First Album
Madonna - Madonna

You mean:

Oasis - What's the Story Morning Glory? I wouldn't count DM as a debut for Oasis...not very widely played.

Oh my god, it took this long for someone to mention, without a doubt, the BEST debut album of all time (and one of the best albums of all time)???

Unless you were around in 1976, I don't think you can appreaciate how revolutionary that album was.
I am a huge Led Zeppelin fan, and I probably like their first album better, but this one almost out sold it 2 to 1.

Hmm... maybe for that's valid for "Backwards, U.S.A" (to quote Keith, from Prodigy...)
I grew up in Europe, and we know good music there... 🙂

nah. it was big here in the states. 'live forever', 'supersonic' and 'rock n roll star' got heavy radio and video play. i believe 'rock n roll star' was even used in a few commercials* here.

Well, I wasn't even born until 1987.. I'm a huge Zeppelin fan too, but Boston's first album is without a doubt my favorite over Led Zeppelin I 🙂

Definitely Maybe is most certainly Oasis' debut... What's the Story (morning glory) was their biggest album though. Wonderwall was really what put them on the map here in the States, but DM was one hell of an album.
