Best Deal On A Car Battery?

I have two Everstart batteries in my VW Bus, both are Marine deep cycle, both are 1,000 CCA with a 210 minute reserve capacity, damn good batteries for the money 🙂

i usually buy the better known brands such as Optima, rather than cheapies. Being stranded in a parking lot in -20 degree weather can be quite an annoyance 😉

That's great, Dave. Am I viewing a chart that I should be paying for? :Q

Looks like the battery I bought has erratic performance, depending on where it's purchased. Looks like the CCA doesn't indicate much about the longevity either.

I bought Sears top of the line, $80.00 back in 1985, Diehard Gold. It was about six months old, on Christmas night, when my wife went into labor at my in-laws. I drove home to get her suitcase full of stuff, and stopped to get gas during a snow storm. When I tried to start the car, it was dead! I got a jump and took my old Chevy instead. Later, I got Sears to give me my money back for the damn battery.

It also depends a lot on on how long the battery has been sitting there. If you buy a WalMart battery that has been there for a couple of months you have bought a seriously degraded battery.

I bought an Interstate Megatron battery for one of my cars a few weeks ago. It cost a bit more, but the battery had been at the store less than a week.

We've had good luck with sears batteries actually but we haven't used one lately.

We usually use Farm & Fleet batteries actually and we have really good luck with them. The dragster gets an optima battery now. We used to use sears batteries for it. We would run them for a season, put the battery in the truck, and get a new one for the dragster. The truck one would always die early from abuse of being in the dragster so we'd get a new one and throw that in the dragster and put the dragster one in the truck. We've never had an optima die now that we use them. We actually retire them after 5 years now instead.
