I looked at the rebate:
"...must be received within 15 days of purchase..."
Way too risky for me. After Amazon takes several days to get the thing out the door, then ups takes a week or more to deliver, then...
I've already had one rebate company try and say they didn't receive the form in time (the clearly misread the date and fortunately had an email from THEM to prove it.

The rebate is now valid till Feb 28. Deal is better now with free shipping.

On a side note -
Has anyone gotten AT&T to reduce the modem lease charge during the
promotional period ($19.95/mon rate) by buying a own modem ?

Before i bought the modem i did an online chat with TWO different reps &
both confirmed this could be done & that the monthly rate would drop
to $9.95. Now after i got the modem & returned theirs, they
are claiming that the lease charge can be taken off only with regular rate
WTH :|

Any one with better luck please post.

Also, they now supposedly have an automated way of setting up a new modem.
1. Connect your new modem
2. goto http://sas.r1.attbi.com on your browser
3. Walk thru the steps listed there & your new modem should be provisioned

Didn't work very well for me & had to call too. YMMV.

How does this modem compare to the 3Com modem for $65 after MIR and coupon?

Anyone know if this one will work on Adelphia? Anyone had success getting Adelphia to reduce the monthly fee if you have your own?

Carpenteraunt's experience is like mine. I bought the BestData modem from Amazon with $30 rebate coupon and 15 day limit. Took 8 days to receive and then took ATT 10 days to show me how to hook up. I did not send in rebate since I didn't want to destroy the package (cut out UPC bar code) in case the modem don't work.

End of story ... the modem works O.K. ATT charged me a one-time fee of $9.95 to switch the modem and eventually (after 3 tel calls and many minutes on hold)deducted $10 per month from my bill.
