I will definitely second the Discover Platinum and AMEX Blue, although I have about five or six credit cards.

All I can say is get an AMEX Blue (get a Visa or MC too cause Amex isn't accepted everywhere). I have a 0% APR until June and thereafter it's only 10.99%!!! And my credit limit was 10K right off the bat!

Plus their customer service was excellent! I signed up online under a promo that was supposed to net me a $10 Amazon GC. When I called to inquire about it, the woman said that the promotion expired in June, but she credited my account $10 anyway!

Plus, that USB card reader is a nifty little freebie. I haven't been able to do much with it yet, but hey, it's free!

Plus you cannot deny how unbelievably cool the card looks. I carry a money clip and keep my Blue on top just because of how understated yet how beautiful it is.

Hehe, have I raved enough about it? Just go get one!

thanks for all of the replies but like someone said...i'm actually trying to get a credit card so i can build credit. i'm pretty good about paying my bills so i'm not really afraid of falling into some "trap" and i definitley know whatever creditcard i use i won't get one that has an annual fee. just wondering which credit card actually gives something back to the user. i heard of one that gives you frequence flier miles...anyone know anything about that?

Yeah, I like the credit cards that list one of the benefits as
"Choose your own card design from our breathtaking list of pictures"

Golly, sign me right up.

btw - I disagree with the whole "credit cards are the devil" mindset. getting a credit card is a great way for a young college kid to build credit, as long as you don't overdo it. I got a full car loan on my firebird at the age of 18, without any co-signers or anything, got a $13,000 loan on just the credit I had built since I had gotten a couple "starter" credit cards, and now I'm 19 and getting really good credit card offers due to the credit I've built

If you travel a lot, a credit card is very handy. This is also true in my case where i do a lot of online ordering from other countries.

I use an Amex, but i might get a Visa because they are more widely accepted. PS i get cash back on Spending and thus end up making slightly on the deal after paying feels etc

I use credit cards to SAVE money. Student VISA gives me 3% back and Discover has some % back too. Only cards I use. Pay it off the day the bill gets here.

Credit card companies hate me. ;)
