Best cpu thermal compound for an AMD mobile barton?

I've been out of the loop regarding cpu thermal compounds for a while, so I wanted to know if there have been any significant improvements in the field? I've had good luck with GE Type 44 thermal paste, but I'm hoping there is a better cooling/longer lasting cpu thermal compound now? Can any1 add some insight?

On a CPU with a heatspreader: AS5, on a cpu without one: I think Ceramique is better. The reason you should not use Ceramique with a P4 or A64 is because there were numerous reports of people pulling out their CPU out of the socket, attached to the heatsink.

yeah, as far as i know, AS5 is the best coolant in the known universe, and likely will be until AS6, lol.

I say AC5 as well, but Shin Etsu has gotten wonderful rating/reviews better in some cases than AC5. Cant go wrong wit AC5 though.Talkin 1 degree diff at best btween the 2.

how does AS 5 compare with the ceramique stuff? I'm using the stock "Ice" shuttle cooling system heatsink/pipe system.

AS5 is a 2-3 C difference at best. that said I highly recommend it. If you are ocing it is that little bit of added headroom...

I'd like to buy an AMD mobile barton cpu that can overclock to 2.5Ghz stable on air cooling. Rumors tell me that the 2400+ 35watt barton is the cpu to get. Is there any truth to this and where can I find a good deal on this cpu w/ the appropriate stepping?

Right hur

and yeah, it'll go to 2.5, but you better get an SLK-900A w/92mm Tornado and a DFI Lanparty Mobo. they were out of stock when i built my rig, so i had to go with the generic stepping from newegg. i think i could hit 2.5 on this one, but the NF7-S won't POST above 12 multiplier or 222FSB...mine won't anyway.

Your nf7-s is weak.

Arctic silver 5 is best.

The 2600+ is too expensive in most cases to warrant the possible 50mhz more it'll get over a 35w 2400+. Just grab a 35w 2400+ at Newegg. I think it's a bit over $80. Slap a good Zalman, Thermalright, or Thermaltake CPU on it with some AS5, and you'll be sitting pretty at 2.5ghz unless you've received a dud. Mine used to do 2.6ghz stable until I swapped my radeon 9700 for a geforce 6800. My 12v rail dropped noticeably, which is what I'm sure the cause of my decrease in max potential overclock is. I used to sit between 11.98v-12.04v rock steady until I added the new video card. Now I idle at 11.86 and sometimes load gets down to 11.6v :X

Didn't think my PSU was that weak, but I'll know better next time.

$88 for the mobile barton 2400+ 35watt? ouch..kinda steep considering I'm running 2.12Ghz now and it cost me about $46 shipped. Any1 wanna buy my 1700+ so I can get this? 😛

I couldn't resist... just ordered it from newegg for ~$91.99 😱. This better hit 2.5Ghz witht he Arctic Silver 5 .

If your using ceramique and you pull your CPU out of socket, then maybe you shouldn't be inside the computer anyways. If there any resistance when you pull the HSF off you should immediately stop, twist and slide.

You could virtually do the same thing with the stock HSF that comes paired in the retail package. That stuff sticks like glue.

As far as the mobiles go. You could have went to excaliberPC.com and gotten the 2600+ AQYHA and the 2600+ IQYHA for $110......$115 shipped. I have the IQYHA and it will hit 2.65 ghz on air, stable.

I chose arctic silver 5 because I heard it resulted in the coolest temperatures. I've used ceramique before and I found it to be similar to GE Type44 thermal paste, but the Type44 thermal compound lasted longer than the ceramique in my experience.
