The cover is incredible . . . but for some reason I just don't know the original.

I agree with you there. I am a big pumpkins fan but i have to say they also have the record for the worst cover also! Billy corgan covering The joker (steve miller band) oh its bad haha ill send it to you if you havent heard it.

Warren Zevon - Knockin' on Heaven's Door

He knew he was going to die at the time he was making his final album. This is a very moving rendition of Bob Dylan's classic.

Billy Idol actually covered that song a few years ago...everyone thought it was him when the song originally came out, so he finally did it, years later.

"You Really Got Me" by the Kinks, as done by Van Halen. This was their first single, and the musical world has never been the same since.
As Eddie once said "We took a hot tune and turned it into a jet plane".

LOL.

I still say Quiet Riot's cover of CFTN is the greatest cover of all time and really got the 80's metal scene in the open.

Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac. Check it out. Stevie has an awesome voice.

BTW, you want cover songs go pick up some Johnny Cash.

That said, I love Social Distortion's cover of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire.
They also covered Pretty in Pink (Psychedelic Furs)

Since Little Wing and You Really Got Me Going were mentioned.

How about:

The Rockets cover of Fleet Mac's Oh Well

Or

Nugent's

Maybelline or Baby, Please Don't Go (down to New Orleans)

Just recently covered by Aerosmith.

Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt is the best cover I've ever heard.

I like Built to Spill's version of Neil Young's Cortez the Killer
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes have a bunch of good covers
