best cooler for an Asus A7V266E

My mobo has issues with the top coolers. (capacitor is in the way)
Any of you guys have a cooler that you like that will work with an A7V266E?
I am going to purchase one today.

Right now I am using a GlobilWin FOP32-1 on a TBird 1.0@1.23
temps are CPU - 53C mobo - 28.

I think I may have put too thin a coat of Artic Silver II on my processor. I am going to reapply it to see.

Also I want to be ready for my next upgrade (I will replace my processor with an XP as prices drop)

Here are a few candidates I have been debating on (to buy)
BTW-all of these are available @ NewEgg.

Dr. Thermal TI-V77N
ARKUA TECHNOLOGY 7228
Cooler Master HHC-001

Have you looked into the GC-68 available at SVC... I have the same mobo layout (A7A266) and im looking into replacing my WBK-38 (with the Delta Screamer) with something quieter.... Im actually considering purchasing the AX-7 to see if it will fit, it just might... If not, im probably going to go with the GC-68 because of the noise issue....

This looks like it might be a decent cooler, but they don't give any review links to show how it really stacks up.

Well, I am not sure about the A7A266, but with the A7V266E use of the AX7 is "at your own risk".
It requires modification with a dremel or similar tool because it makes contact with a capacitor on the mobo. 🙁

Just curious, are you reading that 53C temperature from the builtin mobo thermal sensor, and are you using bios 1006 or 1007 beta? Just so you know, I have an A7V266-E as well, and this new BIOS seems to be misreporting CPU temperature as too high by up to 8-10 degrees C. A lot of people over at Amdmb.com are saying the same thing. If you boot and go directly to the BIOS and see your CPU temps already ~8C higher than your case temps, chances are your mobo has the same bug. It may not be the Arctic Silver at all.

AthlonXPs run cooler than the Tbirds by a few degrees, btw.

Good news, found this over at another forum.... (im gonna go check the pics again, but i think our mobos have the same layout)

here's the answer you've been waiting on, buddy...
the AX-7 fits on my Asus A7A-266 rev. 1.03 without any modification whatsoever. it's somewhat difficult to mount, I found. as far as the capacitors are concerned (which is what we were worried about fitting around), on my particular mobo...at the rear of the zif socket (towards the printer port), there is a row of capacitors...two are missing on this particular revision (ie---there's 4 at the bottom, two empty spaces, then two caps at the top), which just allowed enough space for me to slide a finger in there (boy that sounded perverted!!!) and get the clip onto the socket. 2 more capacitors that I was kinda worried about---1 sits towards this rear row of caps, kinda offset and above them---the AX-7 is easily tall enough to miss it...the second cap is in front of the ZIF socket, near the RAM sticks---the AX-7 is just tall enough that there's no chance of contact with it. the only thing that I'm even remotely worried about is the fact that the AX-7 very nearly touches the row of caps in the rear...it's VERY close to touching the outside (ie--insulated) part of them, but far from touching the metal top or the underside of these capacitors. I may put a strip of electrical tape on that side of the HS just as a little insurance against contact. It may be difficult for you to mount it with your mobo still in the case, faction (I've got mine out...I'm working on some case mods, also; which is the reason I don't have any results to post yet ). I would recommend at least taking out your RAM before you get started.

Actually after lookin at the pictures, our mobo's have totally different layouts, i must have been thinking of another one. Anyhow, yours seems to have plenty of room to mount it, just by eyeing it... Check out MINE and it fits on here...

EDIT: Theres some people over at the amdmb.com forums (where i got the info above) that are running the AX-7 on your exact mobo...

Well I agree with you I have plenty of room around the ziff socket.
I was going by information from Thermalright's website.

Well, anyway I went ahead and ordered the Dr. Thermal sink. It has a 70x70 5000 rpm fan.
I am sure it is bound to be better than my FOP32-1.
I almost ordered a SK-6, but they only list it for (I think) a 1500+.

I am still using the 1004 bios. (Just closed the case on this puppy last night.)
temps today are 52C - 29C 100% load. (w/a fresh coat of AS II)

If the Dr thermal sink doesn't fit the bill I will try an AX7 anyway.

Thanks for the info.
Actually I didn't plan the upgrade I just made, but I gave my wife my A7V133 after two failed attempts at getting an ECS K7S5A going (POS!)

Cool, good choice ive been reading some reviews on that HS... Post back how it goes 🙂 Goodluck..
