Best console for multiplayer (party) gaming?

Which console is currently the best choice for multiplayer gaming (I don't mean online like X-Box live, but instead, multiple ppl. all at one house)?

I know Gamecube apparently has 2 excellent party type games in Mario Party and Super Monkey Ball. I currently own a PS2, tho' I don't know what's particularly good on it for multiplayer. I'm not sure about the X-Box.

I'm more interested in games that a mixed group of ppl. can play, so I don't really care too much for straight-up sports games. However, a game like NBA Jam can usually be fun for all tho'.

N64 with Perfect Dark and Golden Eye. They are a must for any party. 😀

If Halo (for XBox) got multiplayer option, it should be a good choice too.

N64 is crap. Both of those games suck too.

Halo is defintely the game of choice for console multiplayer gaming.

You could have said SSX and Timesplitters 2 are available on all three current consoles.

Well I think all those games are max 2 ppl. playing at once. I'm more interested in games where 4 ppl. are all playing at once.

Any mo' suggestions? You would think with all the "My console is better than yours" threads, I'd get more replies. 🙂

You can play GT3 on 4player; just that you will need 2x ps2, 2x tv, 2x copy of the game and 1x ilink(same as firewire cable). You have each tv with split screen so you have 4 player. Great fun when you are all in the same room shouting and smack talking that your in the lead against your friend😀 Such a cool game.

I agree with your Halo comment but saying that N64 is crap is just stupid. Back in the day those two games were great and still are except next gen stuff has taken over. As for my opinion the Xbox is the best multiplayer console. Out of the box you can play system link games online for free and Live is just amazing.

Cube. can't beat wavebirds for 4-way action.

I know it's not the best now, but the Dreamcast was and still is pretty good with multiplayer games.

<1> Samba de Amigo is hilarious with a bunch of people, providing you pick up the maraca controllers. I don't think any other console has something like this game.
<2> Ooga Booga is simple and fun.
<3> Bomberman Online is addicting and easy for non-gamers to get used to.
<4> Soul Caliber.

Undoubtedly Xbox, if by multiplay you include online, because the XBox trounces the PS2 in online capability. It's also got 4 controller ports stock for all in the same room playing.

I don't know what is up with you and your friends, but my friends and I had hours of fun with those two games. Even now that N64 is outdated, we sometimes like to hook it up and shoot a few games of Perfect Dark.

PD was an awesome game. I can't wait 'til PD2. 😀

Samba De Amigo + Maracas + Alcohol = Instant Party. Don't leave home without it. My vote is cast for DC. And you could get a deck, non-sega maracas and the game for under $150.

Hell yeah! Drunk Virtua Tennis kicks ass! Or 4 way Powerstone2 that is plain crazy.

Out of current consoles it would be a toss up between the Xbox and GameCube. I currently own the Gamecube and I've yet to find a good 4 way multiplayer game outside of the 'party' games. From what I've seen the Xbox is probably better in that regard but I'd say the final decision rests with the games you want to play.
