best computer game?

im looking for the best computer game besides first person shooters...im thinking either and rpg or an rts such as everquest and warcraft 3....any recommendations i dont want to have to pay to play it though, i prefer good multiplayer but great single player is definately ok

please start the recommendations
 
i hear warhammer 40k and rome total war a lot...are these games better than warcraft 3?

There are threads on this here at least once a week, so an Advanced Search of archived threads using "game" and "RPG" (as separate searches) should find some good discussions.
 
Heroes of might and Magic III +WoG 3.58. It's turnbased strategy, best game to play when you have a friend over, since it has a hot seat. It's one of the games you just can't let go of once you're started. You can get the total Heroes III with expansions pack dirt cheap.

now im gonna get warcraft 3. heoes of might and magic 3, warhammer dawn of war, or rome total war...not sure which yet tho
 
Played Morrowind? I've become incredibly addicted to this game. It gives the term "open ended" a whole new meaning. I hear that there are a total of 566 unique quests in the game (including the expansion packs). That's a lot of gaming love...
 
I'm a big fan of Rise of Nations. It is an RTS game and scans very early civilization to nuclear technology.
 
Ground Control 2 - Might be a little buggy but heck, it's still a great game 🙂

Have you tried Blitzkreig? I was a HUGE fan of Panzer General on the 3DO console back in the mid 90's and was hoping it would be similar... I just couldn't get into it though. Nice game... it just couldn't hold my attention.
