i was lucky enough to be watching this live. i forget if Klammer
is Swiss or Austrian. in any case, he was off-balance, on the
edge of a wipe-out the whole way down. the guy he beat might
be named Bernhard Russi, i forget.

just wish i could find a video of the actual skiing performance !

the Oilers were up 28-3. Buffalo came back with five touchdowns
and i think got most of the extra points.

an ultra-competitive final, with Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Cory
Lopez, and Andy Irons. i forget who had a seemingly insurmountable
lead, but it wasn't AI. in the last few minutes, Andy took off on a
wave going left (Pipeline), finished the tube, then took off on a wisp
of foam that no self-respecting seagull would ever have landed on.
somehow, he made that floater, for a 9.87. then he went right
(Backdoor) for a long long tube ride, for a 10. total come from
behind, seal the deal victory.

we were playing 2 a side Foosball. me and my team-mate
were down 9-0. we came back and won, 10-0.

that was before the Internet. Heck, it was practically before

I was at a Mariners game many years back in which they came back from 11-0 to beat the Angels. Or maybe it was 11-1. This was in the Kingdome, probably the loudest sporting venue of all time.

Auburn was on a 14-game winning streak and ranked #11 in nation under coach Terry Bowden when LSU traveled to Auburn in 1994, but it was the Bengal Tigers who led 23-9 entering the fourth quarter. LSU quarterback Jamie Howard threw five fourth quarter interceptions - three returned for touchdowns - as Auburn extended their winning streak to 15 games with a 30-26 win. I had the pleasure of being at that Buffalo come back game. I was 13 at the time. I think I still have that ticket stub somewhere.
My father wanted to go home but he said never in his life has he left a sporting event until the last second expired.
There are like 75K seats in Ralph Wilson stadium, but you would swear 1 million people were at that game by the stories everyone told.

What was even better is that the game was blacked out on TV for the Buffalo area. It was only available on radio.

The best that I have personally been at/attended include The Catch (1981 NFC Championship Game) and 49ers v. Saints, Dec 7, 1980 (49ers come back from 35-7 to win 38-35. Joe Montana's first NFL comeback).

that one was wierd. i had just graduated from college.
my parents were living in my grandmother's house
in Palo Alto. i walked in the living room on a visit,
just as they were coming out of the huddle, right before
The Catch. i watched for about 2 minutes, thought
"oh well, that was interesting", and then headed for
the kitchen.

i would also add, a part of dance history.

in the mid-80's there was a sport called high-impact
aerobics. for Silicon Valley jocks, the place to be was
the 6 PM prime-time class, which was always taught by
a beautiful woman instructor who could do 100 one-armed
push-ups, eat crushed glass, and smile pretty, all at the
same time.

which was hilarious to watch, as all the Silicon Valley jocks,
including me, practically gave ourselves heart attacks trying
to do 144 consecutive high kicks to music playing at 120
beats per minute (going on alternating beats, that's 2
high kicks per second, for about 2 1/2 minutes).

a company name Crystal Light sponsored a national
championship. in the Bay Area, one of 10 regional
competitions was at the Hayward mall. a guy named
Kim Wells beat out a guy named Jeff Vandiver. Vandiver
went to the open regional's in Atlanta, won there, then
came back to the finals and beat Kim Wells.

i watched the competition in Atlanta, and it was very
instructional. the extreme dance exercise was almost
secondary. Vandiver was very good at bonding with
the audience, smiling handsomely, all that kind of stuff.
seems somehow relevant to things like public speaking.

Hmm many years ago I was watching the thanksgiving or christmas vikings/bears game. It was an outdoor game and it was snowing. The vikings were down 21-0 and scored 4 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to win.
