Best/Cleanest/ Most Affordable Coastal City or Town?

Looking to relocate, my job is out of the country so it doesn't matter where I live, I want to live on the coast, East or West. I would want to avoid the south. I was looking at Rockland Maine, and it seemed nice, but I am really open to anywhere. The job pays pretty well so if its expensive it is alright but I would prefer cheaper, I will be working in the Caribbean so East coast living would mean less fly time. Any suggestions?

Are you a summer or winter guy? IMO the best part of the east coast in terms of weather is between Delaware and North Carolina. The summers from NJ up are too short to really enjoy the beach and the south is too hot.

How big of a population do you need within 15 min vs a city that is 1-2 hours away.

Do you have to be on the Atlantic/Pacific/Gulf itself or a tributary. Would Great Lakes work? Waterfront access or just visual?

Raw land or prebuilt?

More details needed before recommendations.

I'm guessing at the very least you need highspeed internet to survive. So I recommend the JAPAN or the South Korea. They got epic internet, AND they have women that'll sleep with you for practical reasons. None of that "do you appreciate me bs"

Rural or Urban is fine, I fly out every 3 weeks and fly in every 4. An airport within 2 hours is needed. I'd prefer an ocean but its just for visual and fishing, Raw land is fine, and so is prebuilt. Anything will work really

Ever thought of the Tampa Bay or St. Petersburg (FL) areas? Great beaches, great internet/cable services, and relatively cheap to live in. We also have two major airports, three major sports teams (Rays, Bucs, and Lightning) and home to several more spring training baseball teams as well. The area is well managed and quite clean.

People say Tampa (and the surrounding area) is the greatest city not on a map, mainly because no one ever talks about us.

How about Boston? I like Boston, and was not raised here. Rockland, ME is a good choice. Portsmouth, NH is also good, similar in a lot of ways to Rockland but much closer to Boston (direct flights to the Carribean from Logan Airport). Portland, ME is also a good choice, with routine connecting flights or rail to Boston.

Anything directly on the ocean coast will be pricey as heck. Along the Chesapeake Bay or tributaries, you can still get something. Southern Maryland between the Bay and Potomac will meet you requirements. 3 major airports within 2 hr non rush hour drive Unsure of southern Jersey. Philadelphia or Newark. Virginia side of the Potomac will be similar to the MD option. Richmond, Washington area will be 2+ hours. North Carolina may have some beachfront. No major airports though in the time frame. South Carolina will be same as NC except Charleston is a medium airport. Forget Georgia. Florida on the Atlantic north of Palm Beach might exist. Orlando would be 1-2 hrs away. You may luck out on Space Coast with the shuttle dead, some deals may exist. The Florida gulf from Naples up to the pan handle will give you Tampa as a medium airpot and 1 hr inland will be Orlando. Along the Fla panhandle, Alabama. Mississippi Gulf you can find something but major airport access is an issue. Mass from the South Shore up along the bay to the North Shore, New Hampshire and Maine may have something; water will be cold year round. Boston would be the major airport. Mid Maine will push your distance guidelines. Inland, New York has Lake Ontario and Champlain. Airport travel distance is a killer. Michigan has Lake Huron and Lake Michigan for big water. Plus some smaller lakes. Distance limitations exist to Detroit or Chicago which are major airports.

West Coast has options but prices will be 3X at least of East Coast. And adds 6 hrs flight time. 2/3 of area is excluded by travel requirements to airport unless puddle hoppers are acceptable

Best for you to go draw 100 mile arcs at each major airport (50 miles for each hour allocated to get there). Use internet to check listings for sale to get feel of prices and views. Spend a week investigating to get a feel of each area.

Once you have pinpointed an area, contact a realtor and have them do legwork for you to see over a weekend.

Kent Island on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. 30 minutes from BWI Airport, 45 minutes from DC or Baltimore. Nice small town island atmosphere. You could get a house on the bay for $500k.

I'd avoid the NE - the cold miserable winters go against enjoying the coastal weather.

Santa Cruz, Ca area

Temperate climate with a fantastic laid back scene
within 2hrs to SFO, OAK, & SJC - all Intl airports

South Padre Island, TX
5hr drive up to San Antonio but the locals are fabulous and its home to great fishing and beautiful views

Grand haven/muskgeon/Holland area of lake Michigan in Michigan. An hour drive to grand rapids and its major international airport. 2-3 hours to Chicago.

Tons of beautiful beaches, lots of things to do in west Michigan...although the winters can be quite snowy at times.

Anything out of Grand Rapids will require a connection. I hit that airport every year to get to Traverse Bay area

Actually we are getting a ton of new routes out of Grand Rapids. My friend just flew to cali (maybe it was Arizona?) on a direct flight.

Let me know next time you're in the mitten, I'll buy you lunch!

Our winters are usually cold and snowy. But we can get a foot of snow and have dry roads by noon.

If you like hunting and fishing, Michigan is great. Spring Lake is a great city to live in. Right by the water, very low property cost and great schools.

They fly to direct to multiple locations in Florida. Fly direct to NYC, D.C., and and a few others on the east coast. Its a rapidly expanding airport.

Seattle area: Kitsap Peninsula or one of the Islands. Bainbridge Island or Vashon Island are particularly nice, Bainbridge being a little more accessible and very affordable for the Seattle area. Live a little farther out on kitsap and you can have amazing water and mountain scenes for a fraction of the cost.

that is awesome that someone else on these forums is familiar with that area hah. my dad lived in grasonville right over kent island in prospect bay country club.

i went to visit my step mom this past weekend who now lives in cambridge after the bank took their house in grasonville after my dad died because she could not afford it.

i actually ate at taco bell on kent island last night on the way home from cambridge lol.

anyways, on topic ... if i was the OP, i'd probably live in Aruba or somewhere in the carribean if i was in his shoes.

Winters and getting to an Airport. On the East Coast you have picked a good spot.
