best chemical to fix scratched discs?

gorcorps

So my brand new NHL09 game is scratched to the point of it won't boot. Looks like the type of scratches you get when the console is moved, which may have happened but not on purpose. Anyway what is the best home remedy for this? I hear things about brasso and plastX but don't know what would be good. I hear blockbuster or gamestop sometimes offers disc resurfacing but it's $5 and I think they charge you even if it doesn't fix everything. If it was guaranteed to work I'd drop $5 on it but I doubt that would happen.

You know I've heard that and I think it's bullshit. I'd expect it to make things even worse. I've tried it once on a demo CD and the results weren't pretty.

I've used toothpaste with good results as well.

Make sure its paste and not gel and also make sure your wiping the disc from the center - out.

Works for me, I just smear it on thick with my finger then rinse it off with a wash rag.

I've boiled with success too.

Well I don't know how you guys do it, but I've tried it on a few old CDs and the only thing toothpaste seems to help is minor scratches that wouldn't effect play anyway. These are pretty deep scratches so don't seem to have much hope for a toothpaste cure. I'll check out my local CD store and see if they have a resurfacing service.

I bought this one product called "Scratch Out!" from Wal-Mart for $5, it works wonderfully for me. It repaired discs I thought would never work again...
