Those are two cheap Captain Morgan knockoffs. Surprisingly, in a Spiced Rum and Coke, you can't really tell the difference. Unless you use a plastic cup, and look down in the empty cup - there's a decent amount of staining from the cheap brands. 😛 Makes me fear what it does to me insides. :laugh:

I'm going to have to check out Sailor Jerry. If it is truly better, it would be worth paying a little more.

i had some sailor jerry in vegas a couple weeks ago. pleasantly surprised. i would recommend it. maybe not for your purposes, but just in general

I had some rum I bought in port on a cruise a couple of years ago. $1 for 750ml - doesn't get much cheaper than that 🙂

Usually, cheap and good don't go together when talking about liquor...but with rum, since most of it is mixed with fruit juices and other sweet mixers, it won't matter TOO much...
Buy Barbados Bombshell rum. About $3.99 for a 5 gallon bucket. 😀

OK...but about any "house brand" will serve your purpose since CHEAP is your number one criteria.

Yup. What are you doing with the rum? Setting it out for people to mix? Pre-mixing large pitches of drinks? Honestly, 85% of people won't be able to tell from the get go and 95% of people won't be able to tell after 3 or more drinks anyway. If you are throwing a smaller party, then I'd up to someting decent. If you are throwing a get drunk party, then it doesn't really matter. Go with Cruzan.
And typically the light or clear rum will be the least "rummy" tasting. The darker rum tends to taste a little more like rum. sometimes the light/clear is a little drier though too, so keep that in mind.
