Both of those options are really below the target range for 1080p.

This was the cheapest card in the range. 80 free shipping. does require a 20 dollar rebate so 100 out of pocket.

But if you spend the 75 on a open box and it is too slow and or broken you can not return it and are out the money, that could have been put toward a better card.

The 620 is not a gaming card, it may be better than on-board but it is still intended for browsing the web and speed sheets, etc...

I was able to play D3 on a 9800gt at 1080p with medium settings with high physics and that card cost me 90 bucks back in 2007

7750 is sufficient for D3. Not capable of running it maxed at 1080p with 60+ fps constant (unless you are avoiding big clusters of mobs) but certainly capable of decent quality and decent fps.

I just picked up a GTX 750 Ti and am amazed at how fast it is. I'm playing Crysis, 3, Skryim, and Tomb Raider at 1920x1080 with 2x AA and medium quality on a e8400 3.0 ghz processor with excellent frame rates. At $150 the card is a huge bargain. Also the fact it doesn't require extra power makes it a no brainer for older systems.

You can probably pick an E8400 (or better) from ebay for <$10, that'll help too.

Yep, but if its an OEM PC, he might have mobo compatibility issues if there is no BIOS update available to support an E8400. So, as long as you make sure the motherboard supports it, the CPU would also be a good upgrade for gaming, although not huge since you already have a 2.5GHz C2D and E8400 is 3GHz. But if you can grab one for 10-15 bucks, you might as well go for it.

My old system has a GTX260 and it plays Diablo 3 at 1200P max everything with vsync all buttery smooth. Even with the new content (I played in the beta for the expansion). Anything comparable in performance should be fine.

GTX 260 and Radeon 4870 are both extremely good in DX9 performance and would be more than capable of running Diablo 3 maxed out. However, their power draw is one of their major cons. A Radeon 7750 would be comparable in performance for a slightly higher price and much lower power consumption. The new patch didn't really make the game much more demanding on the GPU.

I play it at 2560x1440 maxed out with a slightly overclocked 2600K and 580s in SLI. Great framerates.

honestly for price get the 7750 or 7770.......specially with the system he has; anything more money would be a waste....and also not sure if his psu can handle it....

+1

I'll add, if the OEM PSU has the available plugs (and/or adapter) I would lean toward a 7770.

If you get a 7750 make sure its the GDDR5 version. A lot of slower DDR3 versions are out there.
